Golden commando wings

Hey everyone,

I need some help-- one of my friends showed me a gold pendant which I recognized is the Singapore commando jump wings, with the word "Singapura" across the front. He said that he used to be in Guards. Do the Guards undergo parachute training? How about diving courses (I'm not referring to just the coastal swim they have to undergo, I'm referring to actual underwater diving, similar to NDU's duties)?

Nope, I didn't mean the NDU tag. I meant if the Guards have to undergo underwater diving courses.

Are Guards similar to the Army Rangers?

army ranger course is different. ranger course is voluntary sign up one.

I'm from the U.S., but a friend from Singapore showed me his pendant, and I'm just curious. Actually, I have a nagging suspicion that he may be ex-SOF, but he won't disclose anything. He said that the badge was hard-earned and the course he had to undergo was "like a Ranger, but not really, though." So, that's why I was asking if Guards is similar to the Rangers. He also seems to know Hendon Camp inside out (even while driving by on the expressway!).

Anyway, I was looking for some viewpoints.

that jump wings pendant doesn’t mean anything …. you can buy it at hendon camp’s gift shop …. perhaps he just went for the airborne confidence course ? ... they are conducted at hendon camp too …..

1) pendant can be bought. US army (or any other army) also has a few pendants that can be purchased in singapore ... hopefully for those who lost theirs
2) he may be a clerk ...
3) ranger and guards similar? ROFL ... ask yourself dude ... sniper is a marksman definitely ... but not the other way.
4) SOF will never say such crap to you, if he is, you will never know, unless he is your trainer.
5) "like ranger, but not really, though" ... you have answered it youself.
6) "nagging suspicion" ... look at his hands, been thru tough training? look at his eyes, the killer look? or maybe, you have become his victim of fake identity.

BTW, what military background are you from?

And, I don't have any military background. I was considering joining the USMC (U.S. Marine Corps) after high school, but went to college instead. Thinking of joining when I return home. Not confirmed yet...

Nah, if I were to go into the Corps, I'd probably branch into Military Intelligence. Though I wouldn't mind the field action, but because I'm a woman, the military wouldn't allow me into direct combat anyway.

Never saw the movie, "Hamburger Hill." I heard it's pretty bloody.

The reason why I'm so into military matters is because I used to be an Army brat.

I'm still trying to find the Navy SEAL SOCOM game in Singapore, but it looks like they have all been sold out Confused Oh well...there's always "Rainbow Six."

u mean the freefall badge? the metal no.3 version is golden in colour. below is the no.1 version.

Nah, Gord, he means the little golden pendant. It's the tiny one that's about 1cm from wingtip to wingtip.

It's not an official bit of kit. Don't know if the arrangement's changed, but in my day we had a specific goldsmith who used to make batches to order when we finished the basic Airborne Course. I suppose if Guardsmen and guys from other units did the BAC, they could order it as well.

Anyway, in terms of mission profile, I'd say that the Commandos' mission profile was similar to that of the 1/75th or 2/75th, while the Guards' job is more similar to the Air Cav.

Speaking about goldsmiths – I’ve come across one the makes these little pendents – airborne wings, commando formation, etc. Could be the same one the Ged mentioned.

my friend who did his BAC have one that is gold plated. really small.
