Typically, there are lull periods and there are on the ball periods in every unit. The usual NSF typically might go through both periods.

Depending on your vocation and department you are in.

If you are in company line (combat), then your life will be determined by the necessary training regime and standby period - typically 4NTM. Surely will kenna LRI and other inspection. Also must assist for your BUC.

But if you are in company HQ or HQ company, you might be busy throughout. If you are brigade or division level, then it can be different.

Im in Division. And life in Division HQ is GREAT!!! No need to march to cookhouse. No need to wear headdress. No need to greet and salute officers cos see them too much in HQ. Can take your time while eating. Can go canteen break countless time. And much much more!! Mr. Green

politics, ppl u thought were good turn into b***ards in the blink of the eye, happy ppl making snide remarks and luffing about it to themselves.

some of the men (CPLs and below) dun f-ing listen to junior commanders unless these commanders get angry and start shouting, or threaten to talk to RSM. esp those who are going to ORD.

packjust SG

I don't know about other units, but ever since I was posted to my unit, there had been periods where I was very busy.

After that, it would be followed by periods where I was very relax, i.e. with not that much to do.

Last time in BMT 3SG like king, got rank on shoulder is like God...

Go unit, 3SG is nothing, 2LT u call by name and all the Warrant just call Encik like you call your uncle lidat.

Unless you tio some loser unit then LL...
Ya, prepare for alot of guard duty or whatever duty coz you new bird LL also.

LazerLordz SG

This is the reality many recruits do not know. Laughing

Then again, if a bit of informality gets things done in the daily operational sense, why not.

babymac13 SG

You most likely will get a mentor by one of the old bird and be his understudy.

Gordonator SG

those silly things those sergeants make u do in BMT u probably won't be doing them anymore in unit. but be prepared to do other new silly things. Laughing

Unknown_X SG

lol, like wat? anyway go unit shld be an almost complete change from bmt de. not sure for combat. but i posted to fmn lvl as a clerk, go everywhere no need salute officers. sometimes too busy, walk past officer also nv greet at all. jus smile and walk away. go cookhse also damn song, jus opposite my building. can go at 1130 and come back at 1330 sometimes if not high key period.

newmanmback SG

BMT admit it very strict...most centred around training and passing all the tests and what is expected of your basic training though i tink BMT is the time when u must keng what u wanna be...there are those on the ball ones who go sispec or officer...while fitter ones goes combat and others lucky service no need chiong the hill

Unit life can be relax but some during exercise be you active or ns unit u hav to be in it as the main body or support so during these times very on busy...less its some silly activities the unit have like big shot visitations, unit proficiency tests and the regualr time-table scheduled work. if you are posted to combat support most probably a lot of maintenance work on vehicles, equipments, weapons etc. but in unit u will get to work with lots of regulars (i am not sayin there are no regulars in BMT units lah) and politics high in the air...basically no different ffrom private sector life only differences are your status and restrictions as an NSF.

Unit life i believe bunk rules and activities for those not so on units slacker...its not like bmt so strict on lights off. usually unit after 6p.m if u r not arrowed for some 'after office hours sh it job or exercise' can stay in bunk or if allowed book out to nearby makan place for 'night-snack'.
