Over a period of two and a half years (ot two these days), it
would be unreasonable to expect an entirely good run. I had my fair
share of sai kang and morons, but in sum it was a good experience
and it's not something I regret doing.
If anything, it's been useful. My line of work (organisational
psychology) largely grew out of the US military's recruitment
efforts in the two world wars, and as a side effect the processes
and practices still reflect a lot of the field's military origins,
and it still attracts a lot of ex-military personnel. As a matter
of fact, my current boss used to be with the Australian 126 Signals
Squadron, which provides support to Australia's SAS regiment and
Commando battalions, and it helps my work a lot because we speak a
common language.
