Oh dear, oh me, oh my - one more kid with a Splinter Cell
overdose.
Look, kid, it's obvious you know nothing about this so lemme lay it
out for you.
The playbook's the same all over the world - the SAS does what
Delta does what GSG9 does what SOF does. The whole storming routine
is the same the world over, if you've managed to tear yourself away
from video games long enough to notice.
I'll let you in on a really, really big secret if you promise to
behave:
COUNTERTERRORIST TEAMS FROM ACROSS THE WORLD CROSS TRAIN WITH EACH
OTHER AND EXCHANGE TACTICS.
OK, don't faint. It's not that big a deal.
Fact is that given the same tactical situation, there would be very
little variation in how different armies' CT units would handle it.
The basic operation is pretty much the same over and over again:
pop the door, chuck in a few flashbangs, get in there lickety split
and shoot the bad guys, preferably in the T. Weapon malfunctions,
chuck it aside and go for your backup. The biggest variation would
be whether you double-tap or use a three-round burst.
Hell, you don't have to be special-ops trained to know that one -
any infantryman knows the drill. If you're going to get advice from
a local about this kind of thing, do please try to be choosy and
not get the word from some local schoolgirl.
Fact is that any army that can be considered competent has such a
unit.
Fact is that no matter who the terrorist is, no matter how he's
armed, the game's always played the same way - shoot first, ask
questions later. That's what was done in SQ117, that's what was
done at the Iranian embassy, that's what was done at Mogadishu.
Different bad guys, different threat, different weapons, SAME
RESULT.
Okay, so the bad guy may be wearing a Semtex bra. You think the SAS
would be able to do any more about it than SOF would if the bugger
decided to hit the big red button? Turn off your computer and smell
the coffee.
And stop getting so hung up over the 9/11 mutts. Was Delta able to
do anything about it? No. Does that make them useless? No. Why?
Because the bad guys weren't interested in negotiating, and in that
situation, there's sweet f*ck-all you can do about it, no matter
how good you are.
Welcome to the real world, kid.
