Another thing...
The courses taught by SMM are fully accredited by the Paramedic
Academy of the Justice Institute of British Columbia in Canada. In
2000, SMM received ISO9002 accreditation for its basic Combat Medic
Course. All medics are taught both first responder paramedic skills
as well as combat medic skills (as Encik Rockhound said).
The medics are taught the same things as their SCDF counterparts
during the paramedic phase. Then nominally, at least, the medics of
the SAF are the equals of the SCDF paramedics. There are four
levels of paramedics: Level I (corresponding to enlistee medics),
Level II (medic specs), Level III (senior medics), and Level IV(the
really high-level senior medics).
Upon successful completion of Level III, senior medics are given
the paramedic badge. I don't have the image here, but it's
basically a red version of the universal paramedic Star of Life
symbol on a camouflage background.
Here's what the basic Star of Life looks like: http://northern.vaems.org/history_of_star.htm
