i kinda agree with you but one thing i have in mind is that
fitness can be built up but leadership and inner qualities cannot
be honed within a year or two. sometimes i feel that ocs is really
a sportsman's game in the fact that as long as you have been
actively involved in some sports, your fitness is up there. hence,
you're almost on your way to ocs. undeniably, fitness is the most
essential criteria for commanders in saf.
but how about those borderline cases in which their fitness pales
in comparison but are definitely more oustanding leaders than those
mentioned previously? do we abandon them? one more point to note
too, my sgt once told me that we alvl students should be fortunate
because once your fitness is up to mark you are on your way to
command school. he has had ite intakers who were excellent leaders
with fitness and they tried to boost them to ocs/sispec but they
just couldnt make it because of their education level. i feel kinda
indignant for them. meritocratic we may be, but shouldnt we give
the ite students a second chance to prove themselves?
