Dude, since when did they give swords out to all officers? At least not during my time; only sword winners were given one. That is great news if they are giving it to all OCS graduates; they deserve one.

And the sword is neither fake nor real, it's simply a ceremonial sword. And as was mentioned, it does come engraved with your name, your class and your rank. Here's a pix. Anyone recognise the gent handing out the sword? If you do, you're probably an old fart like me Wink

CKtalon SG

ya..they have been issuing ceremonial swords to all officers...for how many years..that I'm not sure..

it looks like Winston Choo handing out the swords. My Wing Comd did tell me back in the 80s, swords were only given out to SOMs and SOHs, and anyone else who wanted to buy a sword had to pay for one out of their own pockets.

i-SHOT SG

Yeah bro, it is indeed him. Whatever happened to the general? FYI, I don't think they were even offering the swords for sale during my time. Anyway, like I said, I'm very glad to hear all the officers are getting one. It's a piece of pride and joy that has travelled with me all over the world.

How about issuing bayonets to the 2SGs (Combat) and above. Those that finish the platoon sergeant course? (how about those UNSHARPENed bayonets?)
or issuing baton to the CSMs when they finish the CSM course?

You can consolidate all the CSMs in the whole WORKYEAR who had attended the CSM course, ask them to go back to PLC camp or SAFWOS to have a big ceremony. (low cost, good morale booster, and the baton is not sharp).

Good for him. Thanks for the info, bro.

The sword is not technically a “real” sword” it’s just a piece of shaped steel

A trophy is also made up of scape metal yet it is still prize after by many sportmen. The meaning behind these possesion are far-etch than the material itself.

Beside, the sword are meant to be use for ceremonial event not to poke enemy. SAF can well-afford guns.
