My first few weeks posted into 4 SIR was also quite bad... I was
quite depressed, even though I have (and continue to have) a great
buddy to talk to me everyday it kept the blues off me.
I also stuck with my phone, and calling out and talking to my
friends have really helped me out a lot. No matter what training
there is, I would remind myself that it is all do-able. Generations
have been there and done that; in fact, I think that they had it
worse than me, doing NS at a time where the TSR has not been fully
formed yet!
The support of my platoon mates meant a lot to me, for that I am
really grateful. We b*tched together, cursed the system, and
laughed it off after all the poo has dropped on us.
May I be frank to state that SAF is really like a nursery for real
life. The working world is just outside the window of the nursery;
the full brunt of storms are battening down, while NSFs are
currently inside this mini-ecosystem. You make a mistake, all you
are given are some push-ups, a few extras, and life goes on. Heck,
you are even given a chance to climb the hierarchy and become a NSF
officer!
If you can't survive the SAF, then I can say that you can't deal
with the real world.
