Hello, welcome to FDS. You will be posting in on next Monday, and will be going through a 12 weeks course, it's like another BMT, with live firings, route marches and defence exercise (i.e. trench digging). It is NOT a 8 to 5 job, but a shift work. You will take combat pay.

In PLAB, it's not quite like standing at SFT/TFT. Trust me, you will have lots of experience, learn lots of things and yar, you will do things more than just standing gates.

Once you graduate from course, you will know. Best of luck. Smile

Nuad SG

Shocked .. i see, heh so its not stand around slack Neutral

hmm ..well i'll get combat pay.. and a more interesting vocation i guess. Laughing

anymore info anyone?

Zooish SG

Another FDS guy... seems like FDS intake increasing every year.

Gd luck at PLAB, not the worst place to be posted to (most say Tengah's the worst), but not a walk in the park either.

There is still a chance that after your 3-month FDS course you may get posted out of PLAB to the other bases.

Security in air bases is many many times tighter than TFT/SFT so dun compare. Have fun getting to know every inch of the 20km perimeter fencing at PLAB. Mr. Green

off_service SG

Don't worry la, I was worried when I was posted in also. Can't tell you everything here. Just go with the flow. You'll get through.

off_service SG

Hmm. I don't think there's chance for them to be posted out... the strength (not to be revealed) is quite small.

Zooish SG

I see, one of the smaller intakes.

Well then, have fun at PLAB Nuad. Try to get into GOH, adds more variety to FDS life.

Nuad SG

thanks for the info.. so i guess its like rifleman + rp rolled into one.

found out somestuff on the web about FDS

dont really like the shift work Sad , infantry training sounds interesting though.

cross my fingers.

powser SG

Is it definitely that all RPs at PLAB go to FDS? If that's the case I think i have to prepare for 2 years more of *** in my life.

Sigh...

powser SG

Huh?? the intake is small?
In my platoon got at least 4 liao, and i know of 3 more outside my bmtc company and 1 i read online..

So that means I know 8 ppl going to [email protected] But that's counting those i know.. there shud be many many more that I don't know right..?

No not probing to get the real strength out... just wondeirng why the intake is considered small when I found out so many ppl are in RP PLABs posting..

aCid_rAIn SG

anyway, may i know if the first two weeks are confinement?
and if u on duty on public holidays will it be off in lieu?

Zooish SG

I believe there won't be any confinement, you'll get to book out on weekends and PH during the course.

Once you're in FDS you can kiss goodbye to the notion of weekends and PHs; there are only 2 kinds of days in FDS - duty days and off-duty days. And no, you will not get off in lieu.

Zooish SG

By small intake, we mean that there will be enough personnel for deployment at PLAB only. "Small" in this case is a relative term.

Large intake will mean that after manpower needs are satisfied at PLAB, there will still be remaining personnel left to be deployed to other bases.

binZ SG

haha.. u sound very confident of the manpower deployment and how it works. Wink

powser SG

so i guess the first 3 mnths is hellish but after that the pace will take a sharp drop and u will have lots more free time?

How is this course compared to being posted to sispec? more siong? similar? easier?

Sigh.. Really not mentally prepared for all of this. Gotta do some self-encouragement.. argh

off_service SG

There won't be confinements for first 2 weeks for the course. Yes, duties on holidays will be counted as off in lieu.

off_service SG

Don't worry la.. You are not gg to be a 3SG or 2LT.. of course it won't be as siong.. haha.. also.. many of them have passed out, esp those much older than you. If you say now is siong, u ask them and they will tell u what is siong! Mr. Green

I was thinking like u last time.. i also got through what.. don't worry.. you will get used to it as time passes by!

binZ SG

hmmm.. it is better to compare it with infantry, AIT, Advanced Infantry Training + RP training combined.

sispec, u learn to be a section commander. leading, taking a comman role, learning tactics, making decisions.

cheers~

powser SG

Can't do anythign now except keep a positive outlook and hope for the best
(ie. resign to fate and suck thumb)

Thanks for all the encouragement guys..

is there any chances that u’ll be posted to other bases after the course? and by the way if i’m posted to PLAB, does it mean i’m stuck there for the rest of my NS life? if i do get to be posted out, will it be other air bases or army camps?
