surname.
got no real preference, but i like my surname more than my english
name. in oeti i was called by my surname, not many knew my english
name, but when i was posted to my unit, i had a friend there who
addressed me by my english name, so everyone followed suit.
as time went by, i sort of felt that having an english name dilutes
my chinese heritage. when i go overseas next year, i don't intend
to use my english name anymore, unless with angmohs. now i'm
pondering whether to use my mandarin name or dialect name.
but weird how some of you considering being addressed by surnames
as rude. i kind of thought that over here in singapore, close
friends address each other by surnames. that seems to be the way
for my circles of friends.
