No lah.... it's just that you won't get to enjoy the grand finale, that's all.

It's like slogging through two years of JC only to skip the A Levels at the last minute.

As tough as ATEC was, (and it was tough for me... I lost 3kg within 3 1/2 days), it was a great way to end my NSF life. There's nothing better than to see all your hard work paying off and getting a good score at the end.

I was at Ex.Wallaby recently for my unit's ATEC. I lost almost 5kg from the 3 weeks of ICT. The last mission which was the deliberate attack lasted 23.5 hours to be exact. ATEC CO is a red beret which achieved RECON 1 when he was the CO of 1st Cdo Bn 8 years back ... damm on ...

The ATEC umpires can throw all sorts of funny situations at you. For example, the enemy can suddenly put up a white flag while you are charging up the objective. You'll then have to react quickly and take them prisoner. They can tekan you even further by getting some of those POWs to escape. Heck, they can throw in an enemy general whom you capture among the POWs. They'll then see how you treat the general. No joke.

For me, the assessors said that the enemy had cut off our resupply routes and blocked our combat trains. No chance for us to resupply. I had placed most of my rations in the combat train.

I ended up surviving those 3 1/2 days on the chocolate bars and SAF dog biscuits I still had in my SBO. Now you can see how I lost all that weight even though I was (and still am) already pretty thin.

The current ATEC commander is a commando colonel, just took over less than a year from an Armour guy. Their dy-commander and chief umpire also red berets, how not to be siong.

There are only about 5-6 units achieved RECON 1 so far since the formation of ATEC more than 15 years back.

Current ATEC commander is COL Michael Tan, scholar commando in his late 30s (I presumed) who lead 1st Cdo Bn to a RECON 1 in ATEC during his stint as the CO back in 1997.
