What does PDF rifleman do?

LazerLordz SG

I know that Laughing

Not really true about digging trenches for my unit. I was from the Guards unit that operated with the V200s, and we never had to dig trenches or do defensive exercises while in PDF. It was business as usual for my unit, accept that we now had V200s for some missions.

From what i know, all the 3SGs in my unit are from Combat Unit/BMTC and not Tech Spec. All PC/OC also previously from Combat Unit or BMTC. All the 3SGs are section commanders but they are more siong than the mens.. kenna 3 weeks of ICT and do more things..

lemon1974 SG

actually, my unit is only in its 3rd yr of ICT, but most of the guys in my unit are borned in the early 70s. All over 30s+ , except for those Spec/PCs, which are much much younger than us...

btw, there is no need to run around with the full pack during the 4d3n defence exercise. Full pack are just for show only. We just throw it down at our trench area throughout the exercise.. There are also not much running or cheong during the exercise.. Only need to dig and dig only and we always take turn to rest...

also, although SOP say that we must wear number 4 , with helmets and rifles while digging the trench, we did not bother to do so. take off "long four" and wear t-shirt instead. helmet and rifle just left it by the side. Even when trainers come, they also never say anything...

lemon1974 SG

errr.. not really.. depend on what they are being excused..
My unit Pes C one usually got kenna a lot of arrows also.. Go range become sentry. be on ration party.. go defence exercise and become sentry also.. do a lot of things, cos we are always short of ppl..

For my first ICT, my platoon got two full sections.
for my second ICT, it become one FULL section + another 4 mens
For 3rd ICT, we have 3 sections again, but not FULL section. So they just put ppl and make up one full section. And my section only have one Sect Com, one Saw Gunner (me) and one M203... and it was very pathetic...

A lot of ppl like to defer ICTs, but for PDF, it is not advisable to defer, cos you sure will kenna make up training (MUT). Cos we have 4 units undergoing the same ICT programme. So if u defer, u will be doing ICT with another unit, which may be just one or two months later.

lemon1974 SG

It all depend. If u r guards unit, then you will not be digging trenches. Only for SIR unit, then u will be digging trenches. If you are heng, u become part of POI.

relackjack SG

mmm those from combat unit aren't they supposed to follow the mono into their reservist unit?

LazerLordz SG

After reading, I figured that PES C 3SGs are not easily deployed by MINDEF, especially if they happen to be Tech Specs too..

Unless they end up going back to their bases, which might be one option. However, theres still a few kinks there. It's something I'm keeping my eyes open Razz

lemon1974 SG

i am not sure abt that, but i do ask my sect com and they told me that they are from Unit and some from BMTC where they are instructors.

Shotgun SG

Dun defer den how? I mean I'm like studying, and the only time i have available to go for ICT is like vacations. I don't think SAF is that accomodating to say that "Its okay, then we will just call u back during vacations for ur ICTs and courses."

its quite Rolling Eyes

lemon1974 SG

If u r studying, then u can definitely defer.. In my case, i am a technician during NS and got called up to 2PDF during study at NUS. I just got letter from Adminstration and tell them that i am full time student.. And i got defer from ICT. and after 3 year after i graduated (which is 7 years after i ORD), then they called me up to another SIR unit for ICT.

Unless for those combat units, they are usually go into the same reservist unit and for this, they will usually plan their ICT during University holidays as far as i know.. cos i got friends during NUS, who go to reservist during the holidays periods.

Shotgun SG

Wah, thats kinda sad leh. Vacations are times to spend at sentosa, tanning, playing volleyball with bikini babes. Not in the trenches with a bunch of guys. Hur hur.

LazerLordz SG

You're also a tech right?Hmm.Which DSMB were you from?Or were u part of a BN.

lemon1974 SG

Err.. was an Ammunition Technician... from Ammo Base, attached to PLAD at Pasir laba.. but only an corporal.. never got promoted to 3SG. Lucky though..

LazerLordz SG

Oh not Engg Tech Spec.Hmm thanks anyway Razz

I know, I was from one of those "V200" units, whose role was... You know lah. We still had to dig once. Just so that we knew what it was like.
