What will my medical status be ?

Hi,
I'm still a student actually but am worried about my NS in the future. Right now I'm diagnosed with anemia due to bleeding in my small intestine. I'll need blood transfusion of 2 units of every 2 weeks or even lesser. The blood is lost via a white patch that covers my small intestine as well as my main blood vessels providing blood to my internal organs from the heart.

I'm seeing a surgeon at the moment to discuss for a possible operation later this year as the white patches are causing the blood lost. The operation will remove the white patches either partially or fully. As it also covers my blood vessels, I might need to do a en-route of my blood vessels and remove the current wrapped-up blood vessel.

My low blood count was discovered when I was given a FBC check when I was referred to the A&E department and my blood count dived to 4.7 (normal 12 - 1. This low blood count gives me occasional headaches, chest-pain and serious dizziness and also being easily out of breath. The cause was only discovered when I underwent intense scans as well as multiple CT scans and eventually found out the exact bleeding area and cause through a MRI scan and scope test with biopsy taken from the bleeding ulcer inside my lower end of my small intestine.

If I undergo the surgery in a couple of months and return to normal lifestyle, will my health condition be considered during my enlistment ? Because the white patches could grow back again if not fully removed.

Hopefully someone can clarify my doubts here as I'm pretty confused and my doctor aren't sure how the NS MO will determine my condition.

i think downgraded..cause if you happen to suffer any injuries or cuts it could be troublesome..i doubt they will take a risk with your condition,cause blood transfusion every 2 weeks is no joke.. Laughing

I think we are all not qualifed to answer to your queries... Very Happy just tell the MO about your condition during your medical checkup, and leave everything to fate lor... if can serve just serve lor, if cannot there's also nothing you can do about it... you can't possibly change the fact right?? I'm actually seeing a Haemo specialist right now every 2 weeks and he's already tired of filling in my form for transfusions cause I need 3 units now.

Is there any MO here who can at least give me a piece of mind ? I'm rather worried because I don't want to be forced to do it and injure myself within. At first when I get breathless, I thought it's I'm getting fat. But only realised that I'm having internal bleeding when admited to A&E which required immediate admission for 1 week. If I only go army say 4 years later, how arhs?

NS MO normally dont and wont take risk. they have their license to worry about. chances are you will be downgraded to at least PES E.

Most of us here ain't MOs but once in a while, u will come across ppl with same condition so that is when the forum become helpful.

U can try to post in the doctor thread, the best to consult the doctor u are seeing now. Trust me, most docotrs (the male lot) are previously MOs during their NS time, so u can ask them about it. Alternatively, see ur GP at ur local clinic/polyclinic/hospital to consult them but the best is the doctor u are seeing now.

I also think so, but scared the MO will think I'm trying to evade NS since I'm overweight. What's the differences of the PES ?

You referring to the thread inside this section ? I'm thinking of asking my doctor, but scared my doctor will think I'm scarycat or think too much already since he always says that I'm a stubborn one cause I've rejected options of transfusion earlier on and causing my condition to be critical.

My enlistment could be at least 2 - 3 years later since I'm only 16 years old now. Unless they send out the letter when you reached 16 ? Couldn't be right ? If it's 2 - 3 years later, how do I get to see my doctore if I've done the surgery needed and condition back to normal ?

There is nothing to be scarycat here, ur condition warrants ur worries and u SHOULD clarify ur worries before entering NS.

But as ususal, I always recommend a adult (parents/uncle/aunties) to be present when u are consulting doctors wif anything that is link to SAF.

Thanks bro ! Actually my doctor is cooperative in helping me to adjust to my lifestyle with my condition.

I've posted exactly the same thing there but no response and thus I posted it as a new thread.
