The Pegasus, Artillery's new Light Weight Howitzer

The Pegasus is the worlds first 155mm light weight howitzer that is both self-propelled and heli-portable. It was jointly developed by the SAF, DSTA and ST Kinetics.

Weighing 5.4 tons, the 39-calibre Pegasus is heli-portable by the CH-47D "Chinook" helicopters. It will eventually replace the Singapore Artillerys ageing 105mm light guns.

Actually Singapore has 52 FH-2000 in all along with 52 FH-88.
Other heavy artillery includes 38 M71S and 54 Primus SPH.
(110 Primus chassis were delivered however according to US Arms Transfers to Singapore; check the internet you should be able to find it)

These guns are relatively new especially the FH-2000 which entered service from 1996 onwards. The FH-2000 is Singapore's longest-range artillery piece with a range of 42km. Why would the SAF phase them out?

Check the orbat of the SAF. Each division has at least 2 battalions of artillery and obviously the FH-2000s cannot be phased out yet otherwise there would be a shortfall!

In the early 1990s a total of 37 LG1 Mk II 105mm guns were delivered from France in a major arms package that also included
AMX-10P IFVs, AS532 Cougar and AS550 Fennec helicopters, Mistral SAMs and a quantity of classified electronic equipment.

I am also puzzled as to why the guns are classed as 'ageing' when they are only ten years old... Well maybe it is just an excuse to indict new equipment without alarming our neighbours too much.

The primus chassis is made in the US? or is it an american design?

The primus chassis, also known as the UCVP, is made in the US before being shipped here. It is a smaller version of the M109A6 Paladin chassis with components from the M2 Bradley IFV, reason being it is meant for operation in forested areas. A total of 110 were built for the SAF from 2002 onwards. However, the turrets and guns are made by ST in Singapore and fitted onto the chassis locally. 54 turrets and guns have been delivered and no news is available as to whether more will be ordered to outfit the remaining 56 chassis.
