not sure about the new helmets which has the new netted head
support. the previous version of helmets have leather strips as
head support. i tried washing my helmet once using the methods
described here. after drying, the leather shrunk and became so
hard! i had headaches for quite some time immediately after the
washing, after wearing my helmet. had to loosen the strips and
adapt to it!
