anyone can tell me what is this? i was called for enlistment

one-niner SG

Your being ordered to report there for enlistment in the Commando Formation. Therefore you are essentially part of a Commando mono-intake. You will be trained as a Commando in the SAF, which includes LRRPs,jungle survival, recce, raids, airborne training. After being a trainee for ard 1 yr( correct me if i am wrong here), you will pass out and receive your red beret, and u will serve out your remaining NS libaility as a Commando .

jian86 SG

thanks for your helpful informations Mr. Green

kwlee SG

train well and train safely.

good luck.

Gordonator SG

they train u to be "xiao hong mao" (little red riding hood). Mr. Green

jian86 SG

then what does CDOS stand for? i thought commando at hendon camp at changi?

Gordonator SG

CDOS stands for commandos loh. now for BCT they train the trainees at pasir ris camp. after getting red beret than go hendon.

Icemoon SG

what happened to 10SIB in that camp ah?

iveco SG

Not just 10 SIB. 56 SAB also shifted there in 10/2001, AFAIK. Don't tell me now both returned to Selarang? What's the point of moving them in the first place?

seancannot SG

I thought CDO have different training for their COY … they have LRRP platoon and strike platoon… that wat my CDO fren told me … he is in LRRP ..quite switch off compared to strike platoon…Mission is like after insertion he can sleep liao… that might have changed as he served in the early 90s

iveco SG

Hmm, I think this one you need to ask Gedanken. He served in CDO before & knows Pandiaraj personally.

Fatum SG

LRRP coys and Strike coys actually, LRRP coys are invariably poly batches, strike coys are A level batches, actually, everyone turn ops as a strike, then LRRP designated coys go for recon training after their red beret ...

mrblitzer21 SG

is this the only way to get into commando? for specialist... officer leh?

iveco SG

I think it is the same for all. But if you wanna sign on as a Ranger from OCS/Sispec, it is anotehr story.

seancannot SG

Thot LRRP stand for Long Range Recon Platoon (72 Hours or longer)

BRC do midrange 48 Hours

Scout do short range 24 Hours

TVaddict SG

actually lrrp is long range recon patrol...

Gedanken SG

Uh, nope - my company was a LRRP company and we were an A-level batch.

To some extent, LRRP was quite switched off, although sleeping after insertion is definitely an exaggeration. The mission requirements are different - LRRP loads are heavier and missions are longer, while strike missions are more intensive. Personally, I preferred strike missions - after a few days sitting out in the weeds, things can get quite boring on a LRRP mission.

Gedanken SG

Nah, the difference is in the area of operations. I can't recall the numbers precisely, but I think LRRPs are meant to operate between 70 to 150 km into enemy territory, while the other recce guys operate closer to home.

seancannot SG

Think I remember my BRC fren told me their ration last 2 days only ... the CDO 72 hours or so for their pronounced as ' lurk' mission.

LRRP mission also involve bringing equipments I think bomb , arty guidance system into the area of operation. But quite often there will be no proper extraction you are to left to fend for yourself in a war.... that y they said CDO are actually 'die first ' soldiers

Gedanken SG

Not sure if target marking is part of the missions now - it wasn't in my day, but I believe that the CRF is tasked with marking these days.

As for extraction, why do you think we do 72 km marches? Mr. Green
