Gordonator SG simple. that's because the officers are doctors with rank of at least LTA and above. the warrant officers are mostly paramedics.
jeramy SG nah a soldier dont earn any berets from BSLC only pass out with green beret from ASLC as a qualified infantry specialist
Rockhound SG they get theyre green berets after BSLC from wat i see...the ASLC trainees already have their berets even before they pass out from ASLC
kuekj SG just a question, for me passing out as service medic soon, am i confined to level 1 only? because what i heard that to go on to spec 2 have to upgrade to combat medic, but my medical condition does not allow me to.
fudgester SG I think that's true. When I was taking Spec II everyone else were combat medics as well. And I think I remember one of my instructors saying that only combat medics were eligible for Spec II as well. Though of course, I could be mistaken.... there might have been a couple of service medics as well taking the course.
kuekj SG Just pondering why can’t we be like those SCDF guys, pass out halfway for spec II. :p maybe it’s a ruling handed down from many years ago.
Gordonator SG there still are. remember LTA Chua from SMM? she's still here. plus another female 2LT which i don't know her name.
dk999 SG kuekj: actually the system is changing now... soon spec II will be no more. but assuming the current system... where CMC pass outs/snr medic recommendations go to SPEC II.... the reason why u can't go spec II as service medic is cos it will have a combat phase. Also you are expected to serve as a snr medic/snr medic 2IC in future, both of which have combat roles in war scenario. paramedics pass out "halfway" is untrue. they pass out from the entire duration of their course. if you will note... CMC is paraM lvl 1 + combat phase SPEC II is paraM lvl 2 + another combat phase. obviously they will only need to attend their own phases; paramedics are peacetime responce forces not wartime. another thing. paramedics are level 2 or 3 trained. level 3s are the 'medic' level 2s are the 'buddy' level 1 / 0 s are the 'attached personelle' or sth like that. (meaning b4 they go for level 2, they do ambulance or hospital attachment) yes level 3 paramedic trained get that badge. however... there is a new proposal that involves 5 paramedic levels and 5 badges (even 1 and 2) i am not sure of its status... but maybe 10 yrs down the road we'll see it? ^_^;
CKtalon SG Yup, I've seen the suggestion of the new system.. The lvl 2 medics will come after their SISPEC's BSLC to be Combat Medic Spec II.. The 2nd phase will include lvl 1 and lvl 2 stuff something like that.. At the rate how SAF works..probably it will come into place 3-4 years from now..
cornyfish2000 SG Just wondering… what else is there to learn about first aid other than the usual CPR, choking drills etc to necessitate the creation of so many Paramedic/Medic levels ?
CKtalon SG Not really sure but the way u say it..then doctors also just need to learn those stuff to implement first aid at the hospital
