The OMEGA Jump

Hi guys, read on Mindef's website that as part of a Guardsman's confidence training, he is required to do an OMEGA jump, which is a jump (without ANY equipment) from a height of around 6 metres?

What i'd like to know is, what kinda footwear they use for the jump? I don't think normal SAF boots can absorb the shock (unless i'm wrong heh heh.)

And i don't believe NO-ONE was ever injured during the jump!

thought that is just a normal leap from the 6m platform onto a canvas held by your buddies below, like those use by firemen in the older days? therefore the type of foot wear isn't that critical....

hmm ..i think the canvas cushion the fall alot.i tried the guy it looks high, but when u land your landing on softground like that. the force will make the canvas pullers surge in slowly thus breaking your fall. Not to mention the abilty to land standing up is always a must, those who fall forward or backward will be told to jump again

It OMEGA jump or OMEGA SWING/SLIDE or wat layman called it flying fox? there is a jump about 6M but it not call OMEGA jump during a COC. If it not wrong it called leap of your life.

hmm. i remembered doing something like that at bedok camp during sispec. basically ask u go to a 2 or 3 level platform and jump down onto a canvas held together by your teammates during confidence course. very fun and i jumped 2x

yaaa.the sispec also have this jump.ur section/platooon mates will pull the canvas tight to cushion.its about 2 to 3 storeys high.so its the same as wat you read.and its bull sh!t the no one will get injured.someone from my coy broke his elbow while landing.not his platoon mates fault but he just landed wrongly.you can see his lower arm bone jutting out from his elblow....

freak the hell out of me.but that fellow was like "so wat's the big deal" ahahah

opps i think Joshua1975 is right. the flying fox u mentioned is called the Omega descent right ? Due to the shape of the bar, where u slide on the bar to the rope.I remeber doing it at PLC under the famous or rather infamous PTI from 7 BTS last time.

Its very fun, before u reach the ground or nearing, u got to turn the bar left and right to slow down and start to cycle your legs..when u touch the ground, u should run on the ground hence slowing down and braking.

The jump that some of us including me were refering to is called the Canvas Jump where the PTI will place a coin (in my time) in the center and the ppl pulling the canvas will pull the canvas really tight, the coin go as high as the jumper's height and then u jump down ..legs shoulder lenght.bents bent and a perfect landing.

I think its the guards confident course i been through, i done it at PLC near the gas chamber there got rappelling i also do, flying fox, and a map compromise my whole platoon to help pull then jump from a 2nd floor or i forget, but then its fun. the rappelling is fun.. oh man the damn tieing method sux, your balls would be crushed. lol. another i been through is at commandos camp changi there, high confident course, nb that 1 scared till my legs shaking.. but quit fun.. i think got 1 is run on a big logs.. u fall means down to water lol..
