that, btw, is the sew-on version because there is also a metal version. its pretty small; smaller than a ranger tab. worn on the right breas.t pocket. and t...

Gordonator SG

if i'm mistaken, the ex-OC of Sch of Provost also has the badge. Wink

SingaporeMacross SG

Is that a new tab? Since when one? Who gets it?

quivalen SG

no lah its a US badge. i think the course is called the special forces detachment officer course or something like that. not at all sure about that though. anyone know?

LazerLordz SG

Yep it's a US tab.Fort Bragg is where they train I think..The cloth tab was approved by the Armys Chief of Staff on 17 June 1983. The Commander, U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center (USAJFKSWC), Fort Bragg, NC 28307-5000, may award the Special Forces Tab to any individual who has successfully completed the Special Forces Qualification Course or the Special Forces Officer Course.

By e way the tab is worn on the right side.....cause i tot left is for local, right is for overseas..... Very Happy

palmerised SG

That tab doesn't look right.

Anyway all those in the SAF wearing the tab are regs right?

Very impressive to have earned the 18X. De Oppresso Liber!

Gordonator SG

yes all oversea badges and tabs are worn on the right. example US Ranger, Special Forces on the right upper arm, oversea airbornce, pathfinder etc above the right b.reast pocket. Wink

urm...now that i'm posted to Commando, if i happen to get commissioned as a commanado, and afetr i ORD, if i wanna sign on as a regular in othere units like armour, infantry, arti, guards, will i have any priviledge?

just wanna know, because i understand that for commando regular, they have to go under some more SUPER training, and also not forgeting the RANGER course (which i think is for SUPERMAN) Twisted Evil

duajia SG

No. you can't. Wink

NaZtAzi0 SG

urm... so do you mean i muz die die stay in commando? and if i wanna sign on, commando is my only choice? Confused

LazerLordz SG

I have a special admiration for the US Air Assault and the Miliray Free-fall Badge. Mr. Green

quivalen SG

i don't see why you can't sign on in other formations - for example the CSM of LSC5, 7SIB (i.e. guards) is an ex-commando.

although i'm not sure what privileges you expect, or indeed why you should get any privileges at all.

bcoy SG

Unless you sign-on in air force/navy or police force, chances are you will remain in commandos if you sign on in the army. However, during your tour of duty as a regular, you will be posted to different units to gain experience, e.g. as instructor, or specialist/officer in other units. During my NS, the CO, RSM and all the CSMs were commandos/SOF.

auringedotcom SG

Bro, nobody's stopping you from signing on as a spec or officer in armour, infantry, guards etc..

Just that when you ORD, your vocation has a 'CDO' prefix to it, and during interviews or whatever, you would be 'encouraged' to consider your career in commandos.

Happened to someone I know from Guards who wanted to be an Armour officer..

Dalforce SG

Nope... They are NSFs.

Gedanken SG

I believe that this badge supercedes the black-and-silver De Opresso Liber badge that our guys used to wear on their Number 3.
