Can. As long as it’s easily spotted by the enemy.

lwflee SG

Have they issued a new LBV? Is it the one on the army poster featuring a guardsman doing POI?

Gordonator SG

ya. but so far only combat units are using. sigh. Neutral Confused Sad Crying or Very sad

lwflee SG

Ok Thx. But then aren't combat engineers considered as a combat unit? What about reservists.... *sigh* i want new stuff!v

wuming78 SG

its high time i would say. they have always been the neglected sibling of the guards and commandos.

LazerLordz SG

Hmm, when did this come out?Together with the supposed new rank insignia? If we ever switch to woodland MARPAT, i'll be wearing it only on reservist.

chunyong SG

sometimes i really wonder did we go all out for hardware at the expense of heartware....

Gordonator SG

combat engineers are support units. sigh, no LBV. Crying or Very sad

LazerLordz SG

Don't quite get the gist of you quoting my lines.. Laughing Care to enlighten me? Mr. Green

palmerised SG

I don’t know if you guys feel the same, but IMO, the current no. 4 is very flimsy. If you compare it to the US’ BDUs, theirs is more rigid and doesn’t feel like pajamas..

wuming78 SG

flimsy? and i take it to mean you feel they are like pajamas? that is really the first time i have heard someone use this term to describe it! Mr. Green

i gather that you mean it should be more tough and less prone to wear and tear. actually i think it does - when it is brand new. it is already quite heavy and thick. you wouldnt want it to be any heavier and thicker rite? Wink

palmerised SG

whoa that was fast. anyway yeah i guess. in the tropical heat, die lah.

anyway i'm quite perplexed over the 2nd photo..
1) why the yellow helmets?
2) what's that guy behind the one with the shield doing? why is he pointing in the same direction? shouldn't he be covering their 6 or something?
3) the purpose of the shield is to cover the whole team while they move to the area in a stacked position. why in this case are they spead out in such a way that the enemy can at least take down 2 of them? kinda like defeats the purpose no?

lwflee SG

It needs more material at the groin and bum area…particularly the Triangle at the groin area. This is because when you sit/squat, mosquitoes/sand flies have a nasty habit of attacking through the material.

palmerised SG

anyone issued with kneepads?

Rockhound SG

i wonder who actually trains them?...outside instructors/advisors from SOF or STAR or SOC from SPF?....or ‘inhouse’ as in they train by trial and error and improve over time?

one-niner SG

wats with the yellow color helmets ? To identify themselves as FF instead of OPFOR ? hm i recall my Bn using Yellow tape to stick to right side of weapons to indentify ourselves as FF

chunyong SG

amateurs lah, u expect them to move as a 'train' and stack-up properly ? hahaha

palmerised SG

Well since they're from 3SIR (UOC), i'd expect them to live up to their name..
And calling them 3SIR (UOC) sounds like the USMC's MEU (SOC). Hahaha at least theirs is SPECIAL OPERATIONS CAPABLE..

Wayang or not, gotta give them credit for at least trying. Hell, we've gotta start somewhere..

lwflee SG

Actually, i dun really know what the SAF is trying to do here. All infantry should have access to the same training.

As stated above, this is just an experimental unit for the SAF to iron out tactics and SOP so i think the designation is temprorary? S

UOC sounds silly.

LazerLordz SG

Agreed,The first step must be taken. And Urban Operations Company sounds alright, but I'm sure we need more than one company for LIC. Perhaps we might get a Urban Operations Brigade or two when the SOPs have matured.

chunyong SG

then maybe the UOC can take over STAR Unit's job ? dat would be best....take over the job but not the pay.
