flag bearer

palmerised SG

isn’t that the reason as to why they have the extra person at the back of the bearer so that if the bearer were to faint for some reason, the backup can take the flag from him.

Drain-V- SG

But isn't that person supposed to be just the Colours escort?

s|nNeD SG

the person holding the flag must and can only be officer.

the specialist behind is the colour ensign.

Drain-V- SG

The Commissioned officer is the Colours Ensign...

The spec behind is the Colours Escort...

Zooish SG

The person behind is 'escorting' the colours because he is carrying arms. That is his official duty/purpose.

But in the event the ensign faints, the escort will have to rush forward and grab hold of the colour to prevent it from falling to the ground.

tkw88 SG

The colours or flag escort wears a sash diagonally across the body.

In the past, the flag escort is at least SGT. Now usually at least 2SG.

I kena before for my Div Commander's change of command parade. Easy lah, on the day itself, one quick rehersal, actual thing in the afternoon.

RSM took a picture of me. Looking quite kilat holding the national flag (or was it SAF flag? Can't remember) flanked by two formidable-looking SSGs.....didn't have to be Duty officer for quite a while after that Smile

Gordonator SG

not quite. the flag escorts for the 38th enginner anniversary tomorrow are two 3SG.

Zooish SG

i think tkw88 was refering to NDP lah. NDP quite strict, only 2SGs and above for escorts. Internal parades not so particular i guess.
