Honestly it's embrassessing! Attended 4 commission parades, including my own. Never seen someone faint.

Who was your SSM? Ours was SWO Richard Ee, all time favourite line, " Contingent XXX, GO!!!" = Rifle over head around old Sispec square. Lost count of number of rounds. Anyway, on actual day we had a prefect parade, even had single bang (all 10 contigents) during march-in. THose who wne thru will know how shiok it feels.

hmm the CPRs attire were long 4 with peakcap,gloves and parade boots.So should not be the weather.more likely not water parading or went clubbing the night before, before i comissioned, Commander OCS issued an order in the RO for the saturday book out that all cadets to return to barracks by 2230 and be asleep by 2330...

Returning to camp was 1 thing,sleeping was another though Laughing

january is certainly not the hottest month.

there can be various reasons for their fainting, e.g. consumption of alcohol the night before leading to dehydration, genuinely not feeling well, gan jiong, etc.

im sure the few of them who fainted did not want that to happen too. imagine fainting infront of your friends and relatives who have came to support you, and the whole entire crowd, not to mention your superiors and your peers! how embarrasing that could be! and they would almost certainly miss the rest of the parade if not the dinner, after all the 9 mths of sweat and tears (its not just about the 4 wks or so of CPR). who in the right frame of mind would want that to happen? those who are seriously chao keng would have fallen out eons ago and not be in the parade at all!

so, let's try to be more empathetic to them. Wink

I did the January commissioning before....weather during training was hot and cold, macham sauna....Imagine after rain then go marching, then run around with rifle around parade square on the slippery floor, then in and out of parade square on that surface also with those studded boots...

But I guess the weather changes from batch to batch....

I think since they have gone through their whole OCS term, we should not overly condemn them too much.Who can safely say nothign will happen?We are humans, and our bodies are not well-regulated machines.

Try going umpteen rehearsals after your PAC,ET Runs, Interval Trainings, BCCTs etc. Stand in your no.1s with your peak cap on under the streaking sun. Listening at attention to the SSM. Have early lunch. Go for more rehearsals. Lectures in the evening. 1 hour admin time. and the routine continues.

actually during my CPR, it was the first few days of drills that was intolerable. all the run-throughs were fun! our SSM (de Silva during my time) was really great. he was real nasty, yes, but he made all those damned funny remarks at the award winners, the appointment holders, etc, and we were all in the file, controlling our giggles, trying hard not to burst out luffing! otherwise, we would be mumbling to each other, commenting on things, talking cock, etc.. well. with all those distractions, fainting was hard! and we did the same even during the actual day! anyway my friend was one of those who fainted. he got 21 extras i heard. the air force guy who walked out got 28. i think the air force guy absolutely deserves it. i think he was sleeping then he fell cos he immediately recovered from what my instructors said. then when the medic came at first he refused to fall out but i think too embarrassed to carry on so he walked out. my instructors were absolutely disgusted. for my own two cents worth, i think he deserved his extras. absolutely no pride man.

in fact i got two friends who fainted. one from combat engineers. he is the SOH and one from foxtrot.

i think all of them really deserved their punishment, including my friend. if they cant take care of themselves and prepare themselves sufficiently for their own parade, how can they be expected to take care of their men in future?

ten months of training is even more xiong than the parade itself. anyway if officers can fall out, what do they expect of their men?? we dunt expect more of our men than what we expect of ourselves.

this is especially true of the air force guy who walked out. everyone in the stands was laughing at him.

if they sign extras, they will serve their extras in their new unit as an officer right?

anyway officers' duties is also quite relaxing. do duty officer come down guardhouse see see look look. not so bad right as compared to doing guard duty as a cadet? Wink

Thats the main reason why i respect warrant officers more than newly commisioned officers. In fact i don't understand why warrant officers are considered lower rank than junior comissioned officers, they have more experience, knowledge compared to a 20 yr old punk....i.e MWO compared to a 2LT..

Don't gimme the crap of parade square warrant bigger and NCO is smaller than any commissioned officers...that i know..but when is the last time a WO ordered a 2LT to stripe down his rank to run around the parade square for not marching in the parade square. The last time was the reign of Tiger Hong as a MWO..
