You might be willing, but situation might not will you.
See your men shot and blown apart, blood everywhere. You carry
wounded and dead back and forth, hear endless screaming, damn tired
but still must carry on. News comes from mainland that another HDB
got hit by rockets, you wonder if it's yours, your parents, or
someone you know.
One of your man comes to you sobbing: His brother in another unit
died, carried back in a box. He wants to attend the funeral. How to
say no? We are so used to "team spirit" that if we get into real
war, and people start dispersing, I wonder if we get lost as
well.
Plus the amount of chao keng people around makes it acceptable to
quit. You have migraine ah? Nevermind ah boy... sit down.. rest..
take out helmet... have a drink... you ok or not? Come war time,
you break your whole arm also better run for your life.
I'm willing to risk my life for my country. It'll be interesting to
see what situation will we be in when time comes to walk the walk
and talk the talk.
