What if I fail my BMT or they decided not to keep me? And then
if let say I got into the Guards Conversion Course and I failed,
what will happen? Does the majority of people pass this thing
although it's tough? If minority of people failed or droped out
this course, what's the common reason behind?
If it's Arty during my time (late '80s), the mono-intakers we
don't keep were sent to be trained as storemen or other service
(not combat) soldiers. The mortarman-course dropouts, however, were
retained by the unit as much as possible - as part of CQ staff or
mess boy or whatever - due to the "once a gunner, always a gunner"
mantra. Dunno about the GDS doctrine for both stages.
Guards Conversion Course, like a lot of vocational training, is
more proficiency-oriented. Training is tough, but otherwise
progressive & very specialized (weapons, heli-rappelling,
jungle survival, etc. - but good luck with the reputed coastal swim
test) over 5 weeks. I believe it's rare to fail unless you OOC due
to an injury or something. The latter is the most common reason for
your last question.
