if ever any bugger ask u to do that, he would breach human
rights, and all u have to do is call the hotline no. Today's SAF is
not welfare cos they reallly love ur pretty ass, but the people of
Singapore are better educated on issues such as law and ethics. So
unless the govt wants an international human rights crisis, if
better improve its treatment of conscripts.
IMO It's actually only degrading if the DI forces you to use
your own toothbrush.
Objectively, what's wrong with cleaning the loo with such a tool,
as long as the latter is disposable? It's not like the SAF provided
such basic supplies all the time either; a lot of the equipment
(esp. pails, but also extra brushes) were traditionally "scavenged"
- sometimes brought from one's own home or paid for out of one's
own pockets. My active time even saw a spell where the unfortunate
area-cleaners had to rely only on hoses to clean out the filth
every morning.
I understand that some camps outsourced such duties now, but toilet
cleaning - even as a punishment - doesn't carry the humiliation of
a corrective work order. What if a DI asked you to use a cloth to
wipe the surfaces of toilet bowls? Repulsive or not, that is
precisely what's being done by chambermaids & civilian
cleaners.
