nympho SG Do Permanent Residents get the same chances to enter vocations in NS such OCS, SISPEC, Commando, Guards, NDU, Air Force? I notice, from observation, that PRs do not receive follow up letters to go for further check-ups after their medical exam
Moxie SG Not sure what your 2nd sentence was alluding to, but for the earlier one - yes. I'm very acquainted with a couple of Indonesian-born/local PR's who served NS here, one in Arty (signaller) & another in Armour (tank gunner). There was another Arty colleague who was nicknamed "Taiwanese" & physically very fair, though I never did ask about his nationality. I think it helped a lot that these guys were schooled in the local education system prior as well. Technically, they can be called up by their birth country for military service too, as a Greek guy confirmed when he responded to a recent Today article about dual-NS.
malcolmloke SG I don't think that PR status per se affects your chances of getting into certain vocations or not. It's more of the sercurity clearance level ( and other factors like education level and so on)? Of course one may argue that PRs would more likely have a not so high level of clearance? True to a certain extent but you do see PRs becoming officers? Just like the Greek Nationality mentioned by Moxie?
Master -_- SG Dude! There are Italians, Bruneians, Thai, Taiwanese, Indonesians and Swedish PRs in OCS!!!!!!!!
erijazz SG who told you that I had a fren who is a PR from malaysia and currently serving his NS as a officer
Ponders SG what i observed is this... PRs and citizens stand equal chance in going to any UNIT if that PR has no record of staying overseas after obtaining his/her PR. But PRs who has stayed significant number of years overseas with questionable or unjustifiable purpose...... tend not to go very far.
