i would like to know how would colour blindess affect my NS? able to see diferent colours but not those numbers on dotted background colours. would there be any disadvantages when applying for OCS or any other stuff.

I think it's still a grey area after all these years. My general perception is that you can still be graded PES B, or "fit for most operational vocations" (rather than "all operational vocations" under PES A). From then on it's a mix-&-match of how to deploy you, vis-a-vis whether you fit the specific requirements of a certain vocation. & it seems to apply to all service organzations, be it SAF or SCDF or Prisons, et al.

Whereever you end up, there'll still likely be constant & ongoing adjustments from yourself as well as from your colleagues/buddies, inc. complaints to your MO & him possibly referring you on to specialist help.

i had a friend who was posted to NSPC after BMT...

tt is until they discovered he is colour blind. they posted him back to OCS. Wink

But I have to say that I have came across many ppl who should be in PES C to be in PES B and ended up OOC.

I'm also colour-blind with red-green deficiency. I'm a PES A soldier and ended up in an Armour Infantry unit as a vehicle commander.

Colour-blind soldier are not selected to some vocations such as commando, tankee, diver, pilot, navy & air force technician, and also the police force.

The problem for me is that I can't see rambutan in the rambutan tree from a far distance... all I can see is just plain tree.

my bmt mate was colour blind

he couldn't see red, green or yellow.

red and green are different shades of grey/black, and yellow was orange to him.

in his eyes, we're all orange ppl wearing black patchy uniforms

I got red/green deficiency too but I can still differentiate red and green quite well, although, that is subjected to factors such as distance and lighting. I will not be able to spot rambutans on a rambutan tree from afar but close up it is alright. Anyway I was graded PES A and was posted to the commandos. Guess they do see the severity of the colour blindness

According to a medic i talked to that time, there are only 3-types of colour blindness, red-green, green-blue and total colour blindness (which is very rare).

Example to define any colour blindness, the no. "18" can only be seen by normal colour vision ppl. However, one who have red-green can only see "13" and green-blue can only identify a "8" whereas a total colour blindness fellow might not see any figure.

Hehe.. Hmm.. v wierd.. I can see red and green colored traffic lights and t shirts.. but i can't see the numbers in the color dots test. lol..
