Hi everyone. Me new here and nice to meet you guys Wink . I am a polytechnic student graduating this July and going for my NS on June 8 in BMTC 2.

I am interested in applying for the Local Study Award (LSA) by the Army. Any one here received it before and keen to share? Thanks.

Of course Smile . I got the information from this site too. But one of the conditions to get the award is to become an officer, which is quite hard i think. A lot of people going to BMTC want to go OCS.

well. u can also apply for the award b4 u r enlisted. they will then decide based on ur results / bmt performance.

Can I apply now? I am now at my final semester doing only 1 module, which is my Industrial Attachment Programme. So now I only have the results for 5sems.

er.. well i think the best person to answer this question is ARC. but when u apply they will ask u for results and all that. so maybe u wan to find out if u can apply first and furnish the results later. could expedite the process abit.

hm.. i think yes. well no need to bring all of them on the first day. u can slowly bring them batch by batch.

No 4 will be given to us during PTP? My cousin in Hendon got his during his PTP. I guess I need to sort out what to bring on my first day Smile . Btw i am not short-sighted, by only astig (because of this i failed the NDU selection Sad ). I want to bring my spects along to Tekong but only want to use it during shooting/shooting test. Is it alright to do so?

yes. everything u need will be issued to u on the first day. as for glasses, recommend that u bring along. u do not have to wear them if u do not need them for day to day activities.

hee hee my dear bio medical engineer. if u go bmt most likely go ocs one. so fast learn how to 'por' offr liao.... Laughing

anyway there are quite a few people from poly getting LSA. i think my fren had average As and Bs. plus if ur grades are ok and u do reallly well in ocs pro term, like SOM, SOH, u can actually upgrade ur LSA to ATA. more money.... but 6 year bond...

anyway sa-kar is one of the worst taboo in the saf. one may get into the commander's good books (and even this is not guaranteed) but one will definitely lose all his peers. Wink

Thanks for clarification. I am sure barking up the wrong tree if i am doing so Very Happy . I do not want to sa-kar like others. Like what i said, a lot of people going to BMT wants to be an officer, so i think just being sa-kar is useless because i predict a lot of people will be doing so. I want to 'fight' myself into OCS using my military and academic performance. Making friends is more important in my point of view because we need to help each other to survive in the army.

Well…. My advice to you… Dun sign on for the sake of the Study Awards… Go in and have a feel of what Army is before signning on… Or else you will regret for the rest of your life….
