The spanking new Mandai Hill Camp will be home to several
units of 6th Division. On 30 September, HQ 6th Division (HQ 6 DIV),
HQ 2nd Singapore Infantry Brigade (HQ 2 SIB), 1st Battalion
Singapore Infantry Regiment (1 SIR) and 6 Signal Battalion (6 Sig
Bn) relocated to the new camp.
HQ 6 DIV was previously located at Nee Soon Camp and 6 SIG BN was
at Kranji Camp. HQ 2 SIB had been in Changi Camp since 1968 while 1
SIR had been in Guillemard Camp since 1969. HQ 2 SIB and 1 SIR are
historically the first infantry brigade and infantry battalion of
the Army.
The various units held relocation parades at their respective
former camps on 29 September. In the pre-dawn hours on 30
September, Commander 6th Division, BG Chin Phei Chen led his troops
in a symbolic route march from Nee Soon Camp to Mandai Hill Camp.
At daybreak, the Division First Parade was held at the new camp.
During the First Parade, BG Chin lit a cauldron using a torch which
had been carried all the way from Nee Soon Camp. This transfer of
fire symbolised the transfer of life from the old camp to the
new.
Mandai Hill Camp will provide a good environment to facilitate
cohesion-building for 6th Division. BG Chin said: Much effort has
gone into making this camp conducive for living, training and
operations. Being a modern camp is not simply about having better
infrastructure and facilities for us, it is also about enhancing
our work efficiency and operational readiness.
