Wigan have confirmed that Sick-note Chris Kirkland will miss the remainder of the season.

Kirkland has missed the last two months with a damaged thumb and last played for Wigan in February against Arsenal.

The thumb problem was not progressing as planned and so Wigan decided he should have a shoulder operation - which he was already scheduled to have.

"He's had an operation on his shoulder, and will hopefully be fit for the start of next pre-season," revealed Latics boss Paul Jewell.

"His thumb injury was taking longer than expected to heal, and he was always going to have shoulder surgery in the summer anyway.

"So because the thumb injury was going to keep him out, we decided to go ahead with the surgery earlier than we had planned."

Hall will also miss the final four games because of a knee injury he picked up at Aston Villa earlier this month.

Liverpool v Wigan - Mark Lawrenson

Liverpool are just cruising until next week's Champions League game against Chelsea. They did so against Middlesbrough on Wednesday and got a comfortable win and I expect the same against Wigan.

This is a bit of a derby for Wigan and it is a big game for their manager Paul Jewell to go back to Liverpool as well. But I saw them against Tottenham last week and they are very poor defensively.

Defeat won't help Wigan's predicament at the bottom but I still think they have enough about them to avoid the drop.

Lawro's Prediction: 2-0

ghimpheng SG

he is asking wheather your tip is reliable as you told him not to bet liverpool which he intend to intially and even let ball to wigan -1.5 not just a win

Peter Crouch and Dirk Kuyt will start up front for Liverpool in today's Premiership clash with Wigan at Anfield, while captain Steven Gerrard drops to the substitute's bench.
As expected Rafa has rotated his squad ahead of Wednesday's Champions League Semi Final first leg against Chelsea and Gerrard's exclusion means Jamie Carragher will captain the Reds today.

A Liverpool win today will secure Champions League qualification for next season.

Liverpool - Reina, Arbeloa, Hyypia, Riise, Gonzalez, Alonso, Crouch, Pennant, Kuyt, Carragher, Zenden. Subs - Dudek, Agger, Gerrard, Bellamy, Mascherano.

I like their desire for a win .

I like their desire to seal up the game with another goal .

with this kind of attitude towards the match against Chelsea , Chelsea must be worried !!
