Reports in the Catalan press claim that Barcelona have included Liverpool's Mohamed Sissoko on a four-man shortlist as they look to strengthen their midfield.

According to Catalan daily Sport, Los Cules are keen to recruit a ball-winning midfielder in the Edgar Davids mould in time for next season.

Sporting director Txiki Begiristain has been charged with the task of bolstering Barca's options, and Sissoko, along with Valencia's David Albelda, Atletico Madrid's Peter Luccin and Yaya Toure of Monaco have all reportedly fallen under his gaze.

The dethroned European Champions appear to have little chance of coaxing Xabi Alonso from Anfield and could now try and bring Sissoko back to Spain where he previously enjoyed a spell with Valencia.

The Mali international performed superbly across both legs as The Reds knocked Barca out of the UEFA Champions League and his strong displays appear not to have gone unnoticed.

However Begiristain was reluctant to comment on specific names when quizzed on his recruitment plans.

"We are working for the next campaign but we will never talk about names in advance," Begiristain told Sport.

"It is logical because the speculation transmits to the press."

when you watch the games with Sissoko, he has no ideas.. he's a destroyer, but without a clue.. he runs around seemingly without aim, creating nothing.. the team is without direction and it shows...

somehow, Rafa keeps putting him where Stevie G should be...

it's like replacing a dazzling gem with a wad of chewing gum..

Totally agree with you. For all of Rafa's usage of ProZone, I'm surprised he has not see this trend yet. Either he doesn't see it or he chose to ignore it.

go 4-3-3 then. so gerrard and sissoko can play in the same midfield. anyway liverpool wingers hasn't been really impresive this season.

Tactical wise , when Momo is in the team , we played more like a two defensive midfielder formation .... we can't let him go ....

His role when he's playing is like a "Destroyer" , someone deployed to destroy opposition's rhythm .....

When Momo is in the team , we saw Alonso playing as protector in front of the defense , and Momo protector of the midfield , and Gerrard manipulating the play alongside the frontmen ...

I actually think otherwise.

Whether or not to keep momo would be quite a gamble rather, as he's still young & has time on his side to see whether he further blossoms/deteriorates as a player.

Don't think we've seen the best of him yet.

Either way , it won't hurt to keep him anyway, thats of course unless a some club comes in with a big money offer.. then i'd say we sell him.
