CARRAGHER ON EFC, PSV AND CFC
Mark Platt 16 September 2006
Jamie Carragher has issued a public apology to all Reds fans for
last week's dismal derby showing and vowed he and his team-mates
will be doing all they can to make amends against Chelsea on
Sunday.
Reflecting on the events of the past seven days, the
ever-passionate Carragher admits the 3-0 loss to Everton took some
getting over, describes the midweek Champions League draw in
Eindhoven as a confidence-booster and insists everyone at Anfield
is eagerly anticipating the trip to Stamford Bridge.
Carra on Everton
"I havent been able to get the derby off my mind to be honest. For
days afterwards I couldnt sleep or stop thinking about it. We
apologise to the supporters for the derby defeat. It was a very
poor performance, especially from me personally, and we know it.
But credit to Everton because they fully deserved to win. Weve
enjoyed many great victories over them in recent years so its only
right that they are going to enjoy this. My injury was fine, it was
just maybe a lack of training but thats taking nothing away from
Everton. They played very well and you wont be hearing any excuses
from us. Weve got the return game against them in February, which
were all looking forward to, but between now and then we have to
get ourselves back on the road."
Carra on PSV
"I was just desperate play this game to try and rectify the
mistakes I made against Everton. In a way I think I did that. We
done okay but its some way off what we can do. I think it was a
fair result. There werent many chances in the game. They had a
couple of half chances in the second half but then we had Stevies
effort at the end. As the away team I think weve got to be the
happier to have come out of it with a draw. Obviously, all games in
the group are important but I think its especially important not
to lose in your first game. Its always good to get that first
point on the board and hopefully we can build on it in the coming
games. Our next opponents in the Champions League are Galatasaray,
thats at Anfield and its vital that we capitalise on home
advantage."
Carra on Chelsea
"Of course, Chelsea is a big game and weve got to be fully
focussed but it doesnt matter who were playing, the importance to
get a win is still the same. Following the derby defeat weve got
to make it up to our supporters and in that respect I suppose its
a good time to be playing this game. We want Chelsea to be our
rivals because that means well be competing at the top of the
league. Well definitely go there looking for the win and hopefully
we can get it because if we do well be right back up there. But
even if we dont, well never throw the towel in at this
stage."
