Scolari on Newcastle chairman shortlist
tribalfootball.com - February 7, 2006

Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari is on Newcastle United chairman Freddy Shepherd's shortlist to succeed sacked manager Graeme Souness at St James' Park.
The Sun says the Brazil World Cup winner tops Shepherd's shortlist - alongside Martin O'Neill - for the Magpies hotseat.

Scolari wants to move to England after the World Cup and is already taking English lessons in preparation.

dragg SG

newcastle is also a very big club.

just a reminder to you. the big 3 in EPL does not include liverpool too.

Marco_Simone SG

Ottmar Hizfeld.Germans can speak basic English.

Valentin0 SG

yepp ottmar can speak english. heard that he's been brushing up his english since he resigned (may be planning to take over frm sir alex just like the rumours suggested??). i doubt that fat fred can land ottmar. he's definitely a top class manager but realistically, i dont think he'll come to nufc.

anyone who comes to nufc is guaranteed the passionate support of the fans, 52k supporters week in week out, a big transfer kitty, and less shearer problem. dont think we're the top 3 sides in epl right now. it's a high publicized job, but definitely not the top 3.

Poolman SG

Just a reminder , League champion 18 times , European Champion 5 times , if that's not big , what's big ?

Chelsea also not in Top 3 , Top-10 only .

Big club mean stadium big ? then sorry , Liverpool is small stadium .

Dragg , stop making a fool of yourelf here la , please .

Wondering b4 u post , did you do any homework ? or just blindly quote because you felt so ?

when people say the top 3 in the premiership it does not include liverpool. its man u, arsenal, chelsea. liverpool is 4th and newcastle 5th.

we are talking about the premiership, not history.

only fans of specific clubs are interested in their history.

Shepherd to court O'Neill
February 08, 2006

NEWCASTLE United are set to open talks with Martin O'Neill this week.

The Magpies are on the look out for a new manager after sacking Graeme Souness last week and it seems former Celtic manager Martin O'Neill is their main target.

Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd said: 'Unfortunately, Graeme never clicked with Newcastle fans. Everybody knows it.

'So it's vitally important the new manager is popular, that the supporters like him.

'I'd prefer that we made an appointment sooner rather than later.

'But looking at who's available, there are not that many great managers around. You are not looking at more than 10 people who could do the job. It's one of the biggest in world football.

'We will meet next week and discuss who's in and out, and draw up a short-list.' - PA Sport.
