Simao?

Liverpool are planning a beat-the-deadline move for Benfica winger Simao Sabrosa.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez has made a right-sided midfielder his top priority as he looks to bolster his squad.

Benitez decided against making a move to bring Michael Owen back to Anfield and has now focused his attentions on luring Simao to England.

The Spaniard has been frustrated in his attempts to bring in a right-sided winger this summer after seeing Stelios Giannakopoulos stay with Bolton and a move for Nolberto Solano fail to materialise.

Liverpool officials are reported to have travelled to Portugal to hold talks with Benfica over a move for Simao.

The European champions are believed to have initially offered 10 million for the former Barcelona ace, but that bid was rejected out of hand by Benfica.

The Portuguese champions are keen to keep hold of their captain, but Liverpool are thought to have upped their offer to 15 million in a bid to land the pacey winger.

Liverpool are now hoping that Benfica will accept their offer and that they can push through a deal for Simao before the transfer window slams shut at midnight on Wednesday.

WOW he will be a great signing.. Laughing

10m pounds for him ? I thought it's a bit expensive.

Portugal international Simao Sabrosa has passed a medical as he closes on a move to Liverpool.

The Benfica winger is expected to join the European champions prior to Wednesday's transfer deadline in a deal worth 15 million (£10 million).

Simao is understood to have agreed personal terms with Liverpool, having been granted permission to leave Portugal's training camp to discuss his switch to Anfield.

The wide man's agent Jorge Baidek has confirmed to skysports.com that the talks are heading towards a positive conclusion.

"Now the operation is very advanced and we wait for a final solution in the next few hours," Baidek told skysports.com.

However, Benfica are thought to be trying to block Simao's move to The Premiership as they are loath to lose the right winger.

Benfica are reportedly trying to change the details of the deal in an attempt to thwart Liverpool's bid to sign the former Barcelona player.

There have been suggestions that Benfica want Djibril Cisse in part exchange but that appears to be an unlikely scenario.

Simao is expected back at the Portuguese training camp later in the day and will hope there is no last minute hitch.

It's difficult to get players when we're European Champion .

Especially when Benitez and Parry are extremely cautious about those money issues .

Those Benfica bosses also one kind . That initial 10m pounds was agreed at the first place , right ? B4 they allowed Simao to talk to LFC ? If they did agreed and last minute jacked up the prices to 13.6m, is a bit unfair in the position of LFC .

Liverpool will try again for Benfica winger Simao
tribalfootball.com - September 3, 2005

Liverpool haven't ruled out trying again for Benfica wing ace Simao Sabrosa in the January market.

The Liverpool Echo says the Reds are sure to maintain an interest in the player during the course of the season after a deadline day deal collapsed.

Only a hostile reaction from Benfica fans prevented a deal going through on Wednesday, as board members in Lisbon feared a serious backlash after they had agreed the transfer.

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez will be hoping the situation will have calmed down enough when the transfer window re-opens to allow a fresh bid for the 25-year-old .

We still have hope for " Dead-Cat " on January .
