Owen may come back to LFC afterall

Båseline SG

In the most recent interview before the Season ickoff, Rafael Benitez has admitted that Michael Owen could have a future back at Anfield.

Rafael Benitez finally broke his silence on the rumours surrounding Michael Owen's future on Friday when he addressed the national press for his final press confrence before today's big Premiership kick-off.
Speaking to journalists from England's leading national newspapers, Benitez was pressed relentlessly for a quote - any quote - about any move for Real Madrid striker Michael Owen.

While the Liverpool manager maintained that his top priorities remain the recruitment of a new centre-half and a right winger, he was prepared to admit that a move for a player of Owen's calibre can never be totally ruled out.

"Michael Owen is a good player, so I can't say no," he told Liverpool's Daily Post newspaper. "I don't know at this moment if we can do something about the strikers because we are waiting on a good offer for Milan [Baros]. If we don't get that offer then we can't do anything about it.

"There were no problems between me and Michael. He's a good player and a nice boy, a good professional."

I'm at a dilemma now .

Half yes and half no .

Yes ....... our strike forces will be the best in the EPL , Cisse , Nando , Pongelle , Crouch , now Owen .

No.....one has to give way , I hate to see Cisse , Nando dropped .

stellazio SG

Loan out sinama pongolle lohz..

Båseline SG

It is understood that Rafa's transfer priority lies in a right winger and a centre-back. Owen will likely be a secondary issue.

It's obvious Rafa has to trim the strike-force to accommodate Owen. If Owen does comes in, I see two almost identical set of striking partners. Crouch/Nando with Cisse/Owen. This setup will be good cos LFC will have a long Season ahead with EPL and UCL commitments and that will give Rafa options and rest players.

Poolman SG

I agree on that long season thing ....

On this Owen's saga .... Benitez needs a winger and a centre back , but The Board , and particularly Moore , Gerrard and Parry would like a Owen's return .

Think one of those strikers will turn into winger , likely candidate , Cisse !

Medicated Oil SG

I agree with Brother Poolman.

Cisse can be a good Right wing player.

Bring Garcia forward to create chances, instead of losing ball in the midfield.

Liverpool need Mickey Mouse back.

stellazio SG

I think cisse won't be happy being a right winger..

borgkilla SG

after tonights match
i wouldnt be suprised if Owen is back

Båseline SG

MO has a point about Garcia's tendency to lose possession on the right, or any other position. He looks more at home in the centre of things, preferably a forward as he was assigned the last season.

Owen does make a good investment cos he is a proven goalscorer and he is by far more clinical in terms of finishing.

Then again, as what I have seen from the Boro match... a right winger is a urgent issue. We have good headers in Nando and Crouch. That shld be exploited fully.

stellazio SG

David Beckham are you there?? Laughing

Båseline SG

Ok, then we can leave Owen at Real for another season since the balls from the right will be bend it from Beckie himself. Laughing

kopiosatu SG

i dun want him back.

i just want liverpool to score more.

pretty impressed with their early passing.

waitrose SG

Yes, we have Cisse, Nando, Pongolle and Crouch (Mellor too). But tell me, who do you think is able to give us 20 goals a season. The safest bet is Cisse but that is a BIG question mark. Owen can give us the 20 goals. I have never been a fan of Pongolle. So I will be happy to offload him.

Besides, I believe Gerrard will be very happy to have Owen back. I would love to see Gerrard supporting Owen again.

Poolman SG

How am I right , Stevie Gee admitted he like a Owen return .

owen returns to pool will be good. pls make it happens.

cisse really cant delivered.

bobbyaw SG

so is baros being sold liao?

anyway liverpool better buy a centre back which is more urgent, carragher and hyypia cant be there all e time for the pool defence in EPL and champions league Neutral

just a thought, if rafa able to get carles puyol from barcelona is a very good choice,

but puyol too devoted to barca, and barca will not let him go lor....

Liverpool will be needing the money from Baros for a center back.

Owen will be on loan from RM for one season.

The problem with Ah Ben now is that his spanish imports dun seem to be able to undertake the physical side of the English game.

Moro and Cisse need a good supply of balls for goal.

Garcia can be the jack in the box as his reponse to loose ball is good.

Zenden is doing fine, but just that Moro need another partner in front of goal.

Liverpool is weak on the right wing.

Båseline SG

Quite spot-on MO.

But I do see Owen looking for regular football than to see himself on the bench again with the World Cup around the corner (although Ericksson did assure Owen will not be affected).

Looks like Rafa gambled on the two young Spaniards for the centre of things at the back. A right winger looks set on the card next?
