LIVERPOOL ARE IN THE NEXT SEASON'S UCL!

No European Champion successfully defended the Title . I don't think Liverpool can do the job again . Nevermind la , give Arsenal & Chelsea a chance la...

I agreed that with Liverpool's performance in EPL this season, Liverpool does not deserve to be in Champion League.

But, dear Liverpool fan, please look at the matter in another angle.

If Liverpool does not qualify for CL next season, Ah Ben would have difficulties in convincing the Liverpool Board to pay and the players to play for Liverpool.

Especially for the Drama Mama Captain who will ONLY play in Champion League. (I hope he leaves as he is acting like Raul in RM)

Ah Ben would need more money to buy players to challenge for the EPL title.

With so much congestion ahead (CL match, League Cup, FA Cup, Super Cup and EPL), Liverpool REALLY need more players and depth to rotate the players.

So far, Ah Ben have not KICK any ASS or secured any players and HE is running out of time for training on the next CL match.

The scene is not pretty for Liverpool now.

Even Brazil was made to qualify for World Cup 2006 after they won it in 2002. UEFA’s decision is definitely a big step backwards.

Poolman SG

Guess what , Liverpool FC is inside the G14 UCL committee .

That summed up all .

Forgive us, there are always black sheeps among us Cool

To those Liverpudlians, you already managed to bend and break the rules with regard to UCL. There is no need to go another step further and ask for automatic qualification to the group stage. Just grab this god-given chance and try to qaulify.

oh yah, by virtue of being the most supported club (this is not a fact but merely an assertion by one forumite) does not grant you the automatic right to anything. This is the kind of mentality that I find most offensive especially in Americans.

Obviously u still dun get it. Such ambiguity need not exist in the 1st place. Put it tis way, let's say no rules hv been set yet....n u got 2 choose between the defending champs and the best-finisher in the league for the final spot in UCL - who is the obvious choice!? or rather....is there a need 2 choose at all!? So I glad common sense is finally in place!

The fact tat such a man-made "loop-hole" is allowed in the rule-books is itself a mega embarassement to all concerned....I really applause UEFA for admitting it now, albeit a little 2 late!

While some of u may like 2 continue harping on the D/Champs' rite 2 defend the Cup (whether LFC or not is irrelevant 2 me), I like 2 point out tat they hv already been victimized for having 2 go thru the qualifiers nxt yr - tis again, I like to re-emphasize, shd not hv been the case if UEFA have foreseen the "loophole" much earlier (say, after Real's case) and amended it there n then. But nope, I ain't gonna start on tat at all!

Redz SG

Agree....let's move on!

it cld juz be a tongue-in-cheek comment....coz we all noe it's not factually proven!

btw, he's not juz any forumite...I'm sure he'll appreciate ur comments n understanding.

Winning UCL is only a baby-step under the new management.

All I ask is for us to appreciate the chance given by UEFA and don't think that it's our god-given right to defend the title. Some of us are getting too big-headed for our own good.

Redz SG

Humble as u may sound, I'm saddened tat u've started name-calling oready Neutral

I may've tried too hard 2 explain things 2 u....apparently I'm not very good at tat. It's a only a personal belief tat a d/champs shd always defend the title....and I'm glad tat many others including UEFA have taken the same stand!

So yes, it's not god-given....but it'll be a total sham if NOT given! There's no need 2b so timid abt stating tis! As I've said, it's juz common sense! Whether we shd be appreciative abt it is another debate altogether....for tat, I passed.

UEFA had also apologised for their "mistake"....so let's move on!

F Takumi SG

I'm not trying to argue with you on whether Liverpool deserves to qualify for the next UCL.

I'm very concerned that some of us are acting like Man Utd fans when they won the treble in 1999, looking down on other teams and act big.

The image of Liverpool fans have to be maintained, that's all I ask.

Poolman SG

Make it this way , UEFA knew that with Liverpool in the Championship , it will guarantee a good TV revenue and gate money compare to those clubs from Scotland or even Everton !

Liverpool's victory gave them a reason to bend the rules .

Finishing fifth don't deserve the berth , Champion sure does .

Champions always deserve a chance to defend the Title .

If not , Champion for what ?

Dunno what happen if MU or Arsenal or Chelsea won the Champion's League and end up fifth in the EPL ?

Dunno Liverpool's fans will sour grape or not ?

stellazio SG

so mr pool man.if brazil dun qualify for next year world cup?what will your case be?

iveco SG

Brazil's case is different. FIFA changed the regulation after the last world cup to compel the defending champions to play the qualifiers. Uefa implemented similar rules, but only for national teams. It seems another set of rules apply for club tournaments.

RaTtY81 SG

okok watever... im out...

UnLeAsH_cHa0s SG

finally u r out... bo liao...

dragg SG

i dont agree. if champion deserves to defend their title then why wasnt there a rule in the first place?

i guess UEFA did not expect a championship winning team to play so badly that they cant even manage a 4th place.

liverpool created two records - qualifying as a 4th place team but won the championship and winning the championship but cant qualify as a 4th place team.

i seriously doubt man u, arsenal nor chelsea will finish 5th, at least not in the next few years. EPL only has 3 serious title contenders and they are the three.

Poolman SG

Anyway ..... The UEFA committee majority voted Liverpool to be in , right ?

So what's the problem , majority wins ma !

I think i ever heard from the UEFA Chief ever said this : " If The Champion can't defend the Title , it's a degrade for the European Cup .

I can't agree more .

It's not compulsory or entitlement that Liverpool has to be in , let's take this a special , unprecedented privilege from the Committee ( hmm hmm . for the mistake so many of them made ! ) .

Goondu74 SG

i think i will want to clarify the Brazil situation. Brazil are the world cup champions and by playing in the qualifers, they are defending the world cup! Just like Liverpool is defending the Champions league by playing in the first round. If Pool were to gain entry into the group stages then its like Brazil qualifying for the finals direct.

F Takumi SG

It's an analogy that seems logical but is actually wrong. All nations, including minnows like Singapore, get to play in the qualifiers. The UEFA Champions League is an exclusive event with pre-selected clubs, not all European clubs are eligible to play in the UCL qualifiers. The actual qualifiers for UCL are being played in the local leagues, in which the league champions and/or the 2nd/3rd/4th finishers qualify for next season's UCL.

Goondu74 SG

Seems logical too, but looking from another perspective, if Brazil fails to qualify for the WC finals, then they are not good enough for finals, at least they were in the competiton to defend it, but if liverpool were not allowed to even join in the 1st round qualifers then their right to play in the UCL were decided by another competition that is totally of a different format. I guess there are so many different opinions now lies mainly because they look at the situation in different perspectives like you and me.
