No plans to change the rules, say Uefa

looks like the decision will be made soon….

From soccernet:
UEFA spokesman William Gaillard today insisted European football's governing body had no plans to change the rules at the moment and allow Liverpool to defend their Champions League crown....

'The rules are what they are,' Gaillard said. 'They were used already once when Real Madrid won...... and actually were not among the qualifiers in the Spanish league.

'The Spanish FA told us they would replace the fourth-placed team - Real Zaragoza - with Real Madrid. It is a tough decision to make but it is not for us to make, it is for the FA and they told us Everton would be the fourth English club.

'Rules are rules and they were passed for a very good reason.'

Confused Neutral Sad

What's your say? Should UEFA change the rule to allow Liverpool to defend their title?

Personally, to be fair, I say... no Sad

of course I would LOVE to see Liverpool defend their title esp based on what happened this morning, being the most incredible come back of Champion League history, we just have to be given the chance to defend this hard earn title BUT rules are rules and they are there for a reason. I don't think any fans would want their club to give up a chance at the Champion League.

We are keeping this cup in Anfield for good anyway... Mr. Green

As a neutral, I would deem it unfair to let Everton, who have done better domestically whilst their counter-parts were chasing European honours, to be kicked on knowing that they are let into the competition on the basis of being the winners

It aint fair...to Everton Wink

if rule cannot be twisted, this just show uefa trying every mean to leave the defending champion out. which i find it is unreasoning.

www SG

i support any justification/possibility of liverpool to defend their champ next season except at everton’s expense.

kopiosatu SG

why not at man utd's expense since they didn't win anything? Laughing

deathscythe99 SG

I sarport that! Mr. Green

*takes shelter*

www SG

at chelsea's expense can?
disqualify the team for overspending and having a whiny coach.

798 SG

me too! Twisted Evil

Poolman SG

I don't mind we can't defend the Title next season !

I am serious !

In European Cup history , no club defended it successfully .

The only diff for L'pool , is the dollar and cents issues .

My opinion , since we won the UCL , the money that won has to be used wisely for the coming season .

Get some more better players , and kicked MU , Chelsea and Arsenal out from the top the following season !

I'm so sure Benitez can bring us UCL Cup again .

The road is till long , guys !

798 SG

actually i agree with you too. if the rule stands, liverpool will be the undefeated defending champ. Mr. Green

i heard that pool can get to keep the cup since they won it five times, is it true?

Poolman SG

Yes ! Positive . The Cup will be permanently place at Anfield .

MU and Arsenal needs a long time to achieve that !

We did that last night !

Hurrar ! Hurray ! Hurray !

Unlikely source may aid Reds' defence

Liverpool's bid to gain entry to the Champions League took a bizarre twist today.

Mike Harris, owner of Welsh Premier League champions TNS, has offered to face the new holders.

He is a proposing a one-leg tie, possibly at the Millennium Stadium, with the winner going on to the first qualifying round place which is his club's by right.

'We would be supportive of this idea if it could be achieved with the approval of UEFA, the English FA and the FA of Wales, without in any way devaluing our league's future place in Europe,' Harris told TNS website.

'It would help to raise the profile of the Welsh domestic league and have the additional benefit of offering Liverpool a way of defending the title.'

Interesting ..

KrU SG

Everton should keep its place… liverpool should have done better in the league…

Medicated Oil SG

Liverpool should focus on getting the EPL title, League Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Cup next season.

Next season will be another major period of change for Ah Ben as he try to get more of the players of his choice.

We have already won the European Cup.

Now, it is time for the EPL title for the Anfield Cabinet. Razz

X-men SG

I agreed.

Move on. Don't go 'beg' others for a place in Champions League. Take it as a motivation to do better next season and win the EPL title.

We are KEEPING this cup in Anfield for good now. Other than Liverpool is it only Real Madrid and AC Milan got the chance to keep one in their respective cabinets?

Poolman SG

Actually......i understand why they are "begging" for that issue , it's about money !
