gd lucks on entering the SPF for your NSF life ....
In the army 2 yrs is for enlisted men ranked below corporal.
From what i here from frens police initial 6 mths training is quite ok.
But they say once u post out is quite tiring with long hours and shift werk.
gd luck

- good luck dude -

oh… my cert is a trinity college cert from melbourne… i have also received offer letter from University of Melbourne. Is it possible to disrupt a few months after entering to further my studies at University before coming back to finish up the rest of the 2 years?

nomood SG

Hmm, I thought NS has been reduced to 2 years for everyone now?

Anyway, to proteinz, did you get posted to SPF after BMT? That's usually a sign that you'll end up in Police OCS. Otherwise, you'll probably end up being a corporal.

Which i heard, is damn routine and boring.

But anyway, it is my opinion that everybody experiences NS in a different light. So dont' worry so much and just do i tman!

proteinz SG

i am going straight into the police force without going through BMT... does that means i have completely no chance of entering the OCS in police? Sad

Execboy SG

Police OCS is only for those who went thru BMT. Though non-sensical but it’s the sad fact, anyway training in TRACOM is fun but when you are out, ya PNSFPO will ask you where’s ya preference, so if u want to do paper work, then ya lor if not, go for patrol…very exciting !!

Prestroz SG

Izzit??!! Let's say if I sign on with the SPF after my 'A' levels with the direct sergeant enlistment scheme... would it be possible for me to cross over to SPO training if I perform very well in TRACOM....??? Smile

BTW, kinda interested in the PTU... anyone can enlighten me on their job scope, how to join them and the selection requirements...?? thanks Razz

nomood SG

Uh,

I don't personally know of anyone who has entered Police OCS from TRACOM.

Also, once you get your sgt rank, it's not likely to cross over at any point in time anymore. I don't know how SPF works, but the only chance you get to cross over to OCS in the army is in BSLC or ASLC, ie: before you get your 3sg rank.

I'm not too sure about this, but that only applies for NSF. I knew some dude who signed on with Provost in NP, and was told that he couldnt' cross over to OCS in BMT.

But do remember, my sources are all hearsay. Verify and check things out for yourself, though I htink you're unlikely to receive a definitive answer given the way SAF operates.

Once again, dont' worry! Just do it!

1. PNS Enlistees will have the chance to go to Police OCS, where you pass out as NSPI. [ Which ONLY does staff work as far as i know. Boring. ]

2. You could sign on as a JO [Junior Officer: Cpl/SSgt etc] and be promoted to a SO [ Senior Officer: Inspector, DSP etc.]. However, You will need a degree and also it's only a handful that gets selected for the SO course.

You will pass out as a JO and will need at least 5[?] years of experience to be considered for the SO Course.

Anyway, being in SPF for NS is interesting. Although signing on to be a regular is another thing altogether... Cool

chunyong SG

NSPI serve their 3 mths BMT with SAF, then they serve their 'OCS' in SPF as NSPI. hope dat clears the doubt....

y u wanna sign on ? if u have considered twice then considered thrice....just keep considering and dun sign on....

loonyloony SG

There will be a batch of SC(Direct Entry PNSF) who may have the chance to get to OCT squad... Only selected few of the cohort!! Its usually the best A level and dip trainees who will get the opportunity!!! So well good luck to you!

Prestroz SG

Haha... why not sign on?? Very Happy seems like people here are giving the same advice... whether it's the SAF, SPF or SCDF... so wat's really the problem of embarking a career with uniform organisations??

I'm seriously considering a police career... but I'm facing a dilemma.

I'm taking my 'A' levels at the end of the year, If I don't sign on now, It'll be a waste of time if I didn't qualify for uni and have to serve the SAF for 2 years b4 going SPF... however, if I sign on now, I'll only become a SGT and it'll be a waste if my results eventually qualify for uni... Very Happy someone pls advice??

Sagara SG

sign on when u got ur degree !!!!!!

or else u will regret Twisted Evil

nomood SG

the problem with embarking a career with uniform organisations, is that your life will always remain the way it is.

Non of the 3 organizations that i know of has any real excitement to it. Sign on, get promoted to major, retire as a ltc, a colonel if you're lucky.

of course, if you're happy with a 3.x k *max* pay (subject to inflation) and free health coverage, by all means go ahead. The job stability is immeasurable. It sure beats being jobless, down and out on your luck when you get retrenched at 35.

btw, if you're not confident about taking your a levels and getting into at least arts or some other low-entry course, you're really just wasting your time with a levels. go do a diploma or something man. and yah, there's an invisible glass ceiling for poly grads. your pay scale will be different too. those are stuff that you might want to consider as well.

Prestroz SG

Do diploma???!!! I'm taking my 'A' levels in three months time leh... furthermore my grades are not that bad either... the best would make it to a Uni, the worse maybe just getting a full 'A' level cert... haha Laughing

the pay difference between poly grads and 'A' level grads is just $100... too high an opportunity cost to do a diploma to get that extra $100 dollars every month... also 'A' level grads have a higher chance to get into Uni than poly grads, which in turn means higher chances of becoming a SO with higher pay Very Happy
