CNB = Catch No Ball
CNB= Cock N Bull
CNB= ???
CNB was formerly the Narcotics Branch of the CID.
In the 1970's , it became separated from the SPF when the Misuse of
Drugs Act was enacted. Officers were seconded from both the SPF and
Customs. The first director, John Hanam, was a Customs guy who
built up the fearsome reputation of the CNB.
The second director was Tee Tua Bah, who took oversaw Ops Ferret-
the rounding up of thousands of drug addicts so as to contain the
spread of drug addiction and to bring demand of drugs down.
The third director was Poh Geok Ek, followed by Sim Poh Heng and
Tan Sek Kang- all former ISD officers........
At one stage, CNB was so good that they were able to operate both
in Singapore and internationally, breaking up the International AH
KONG syndicate which controlled the European wholesale drug market.
The AH KONG group shot dead the Hong Kong Triad boss in Amstedam
and took over, thanks to the NS - SAF training of its
members.
In spite of all these, CNB officers tend to get into trouble as
they move in a world of grey......how do you get info if you don't
mix with the underworld? But take one free drink and you'll be in
trouble........and many good CNB officers ended up in jail or got
sacked.....very sad.....typical of plainclothes police officers who
bend the law for a higher goal ....
