joyce80 SG My bf is a PCG, we have been together about half a year. I found something strange.. We only meet each other once a week, because his work is busy (that what he said). his hp is off often when i call him, the reason he give me is he can not receive call when on boat. Is it true? Sometimes he even work whole night. Is it normal for PCG?
ps-factor SG yes…sometimes there is nite- shift too.Depend on which area he is on board.Maybe if near to Malaysia then probably won’t be able to get to him bah!
joyce80 SG S0....it means he can receive phonecall if not near Malaysia. BTW, how do you know it, a you a PCG?
huaiwei SG Well, I suppose some understanding might just help to lighten the situation here. Why not ask him what his job scope is really like, what his working hours is, and where he usually operates from, if he is comfortable to reveal? It helps alot more for you to grasp his responsibilities and foster understanding and compassion (for both sides, in fact. I suppose he will be glad to know that you care enough to ask), then to ask us who might not know exactly what conditions he is operating in. And as far as mobile receptions are concerned, it is indeed true that problems arise, depending also on which operator you are talking about. For example, a distance from the mainland to Pulau Ubin can already result in zero reception. Let alone further out into the seas around Singapore. But better yet.....ask him about it! Just my 2 cents.
houndy SG hmmm PCG is crap lah...they only sleep in the boat.. .. ok lah back to the real thing... they work one day rest one day....if i am not wrong.. hp is switch off probably cause it might interfere with the equipments on board plus if you near malaysia you be paying foreign rates. work whole night is normal for shift workers... esp police officers..dont worry he aint cheating you...
qazplm SG Dear Joyce, I cant tell you is PCG officer's life is as what you have just described.... But even police officers do have different way of working. Just take an example, I have a friend from XXX NPC, he usually go back from NPC at around 9 plus after work.... as for another friend from YYY NPC, his supervisor actually can have debriefing till at least 10 plus every work shift.... Both are NPCO but due to different supervisor, they work differently.... As for not having his handphone on during work, can due to alot of reasons. For eg. 1) Switching on HP might cause interference with equipments 2) Supervisor does not allow their "men" to carry hp while working 3) Officer does not have the habit of using hp while work, so he switch off 4) Some area might needs auto roaming as the reception might be poor 5) He might be from STS and hp needs to be off during work etc etc..... Perhaps, you can ask in nicely why he cant be contacted during work.... or you can actually know more of his colleagues so you can ask them in the future? Or you MIGHT want to get help from forumites whom are from PCG? Hope my reply do clear your doubt in some way, do post more question if you are unsure.... But you can at the same time can ask him more if you are not comfortable about his job scpoe as its a form of respect in a relationship....
joyce80 SG Thanks! I did ask him, but he always give me different answers. He told me his working hour is one day work one day off, but somtimes he changed his 'answer' to office hour when i want to meet him at my off day. that is why i wondering and ask you guys here.
joyce80 SG quzplm, thanks for your reply, it is very details. did ask, but he say cant use hp during work, or cant reveice call, or have to switch off hp.... every time different answer. hazi... Yes, this is what i want.
kohanson SG and btw, i went into one of teir boats recently.. their toilet is very cramp.. wonder how they pang sai.. And they also have catered food. Free food!
joyce80 SG Like what? say lah... btw, are you a PCG? my bf dont like to talk about his job. but he tould me once he saw e body....e
huaiwei SG Not surprising that your bf dosent like to share his work experiences. Not everyone are quite comfortable about revealing too much on what they do while on duty...because some topics are just too sensitive to reveal as as far as the jobscope is concerned, or maybe the topics can freak out their loved ones? For example, I am definitely not going to tell my mum that I had to escort a mental patient from one hospital to another recently, coz she has very little tolerence for danger and deviancy in general? I have not seen a dead body yet...muahahah.
malcolmloke SG Haha.. isn't it ironic? You encouraged Joyce to ask her bf about his jobscope and now you are saying many are not comfortable abt sharing. And now you yourself not comfortable about telling your mom. There are many things that are sensitive due to the nature of the job. So how and where do you draw the line? What can be said what can't?
FireIce SG there mus be a lotta understanding and tolerance.... i neber ask him abt work......he will tell me if he wants to tell me......which are usually the farnie things tt happened at work..... i oso dun call him when he is at work.......i oni sms him......i believe if he is free or not busy he will call me or reply my sms.... btw, he not from PCG
