Five workers were injured after a wall inside a
building at Bukit Batok partially collapsed on Monday (Sept 11)
morning.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said the
injured workers were conveyed to hospital and no one was trapped in
the incident at Enterprise Centre, located at 20 Bukit Batok
Crescent, at about 11am.
“The industrial incident resulted in the partial
collapse of a wall and significant damage within the premises. No
one was trapped in the incident,” said the SCDF.
One fire engine, three Red Rhinos and three support
vehicles were deployed to the scene.
Eye witness Kelvin Tham, 50, an electrical contractor
who works in an adjacent building, said the incident happened at
the 11th floor of the building, which is occupied by ZTP Ginseng
Birdnest.
"I felt some tremors at around 11am and ran out," he
said.
A worker at Kwong Satay, which shares a wall with ZTP
Birdnest, told TODAY in Mandarin that a ceiling tile in their
workspace fell when the explosion occurred, but no one was
injured.
"I was so shocked and scared that I'm still shaking. I
thought it was an earthquake," the worker, who did not wish to be
named, added.
Another witness, Candice Ng, 35, who works in a
building opposite Enterprise Centre said she felt her office
“shaking”.
The accounts executive told TODAY in Mandarin: “I felt
a sudden shake… and my colleagues and I thought someone had either
pushed the door or shaken the windows in the balcony.”
When she looked out from her sixth floor office to find
out what had happened, she saw “broken windows”.
“Shards of the broken glass had even fallen on cars,
causing some front mirrors of the cars to be broken,” she
added.
Mr Jason Low, 35, was passing by the area when he heard
a “loud explosion” coming from the building.
The construction supervisor described seeing shattered
windows and glass littered the road along the building.
