Fire breaks
out at Bukit Timah preschool; no injuries reported
SINGAPORE: A fire broke out at a three-storey preschool in Bukit
Timah on Tuesday morning (May 17), causing its roof to partially
collapse, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said.
No injuries were reported in the fire, which engulfed the first
floor of the semi-detached house that the Pre-School By-the-Park
(Shelford Branch) is located in.
Channel NewsAsia understands that the preschool was empty during
the incident. Prior to the arrival of firefighters, about 25
residents from the estate had also evacuated themselves, SCDF
said.
The SCDF said it was alerted to the fire at about 6.50am. Two
fire engines, two Red Rhinos, an ambulance and two support vehicles
were deployed to the preschool.
Firefighters then immediately set up three water jets to put out
the fire inside the house, SCDF said.
The roof of the house partially collapsed during the hour-long
operation, SCDF said. Another two water jets were later set up
outside the house to prevent fire from spreading to the adjacent
houses and neighbouring buildings, SCDF added.
When contacted, the preschool declined to comment on the
incident. The preschool has three branches, with the other two at
Dunearn Road and Li Hwan View in Ang Mo Kio.
