Fire Safety Tips for “Qing Ming”
Festival
Religious activities like the burning of incense paper and
lighting candles/joss sticks are expected to increase during the
"Qing Ming" festival which will commence from 25 March 2016 and
culminate on 4 April 2016. The SCDF would like to remind members of
the public to exercise greater caution when making religious
offerings during this period.
Here are some tips to help minimise fire occurrences during this
period:
1) For public housing estates, always burn incense paper in the
incense burners or metal containers provided by the Town Councils.
Private residential owners are also encouraged to use incense paper
burners.
2) The burners or containers should be placed on sturdy ground
and at a safe distance away from combustible materials and
residential premises.
3) Ensure that smouldering incense and embers are completely
extinguished before leaving.
4) Avoid throwing lighted materials such as candles and matches
onto grass patches and fields as these may inadvertently start a
fire.
Fire safety is our collective responsibility and together we can
help to reduce fire occurrences in Singapore.
