Fire breaks
out near City Square Mall; no injuries reported
SINGAPORE: A fire broke out near City Square Mall on Wednesday
evening (Dec 30). No injuries were reported.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to
the incident at 30 Sturdee Road at about 6.30pm.
The fire involved discarded items in a carpark at the basement
of the condominium, SCDF said, adding that the flames were
extinguished using a water jet. Twelve people were evacuated by the
condominium's security personnel before SCDF arrived at the scene,
it said.
SCDF said it is investigating the cause of the fire.
An eyewitness who declined to be named told Channel NewsAsia he
saw plumes of smoke while he was at City Square Mall at about
6.30pm.
"The fire seemed to be coming from the direction of Race Course
Road," he said. "There was a strong burning smell from where I was
standing at City Square Mall. I cannot tell if it was a big fire.
From the speed at which the fire was put out, It seemed like a
small fire."
