SINGAPORE: A truck caught fire Thursday morning (Aug 13) along
the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) and no one was injured, said the
Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
SCDF said they were alerted to the incident along the AYE
towards Tuas, near the Portsdown exit, at 11.10am and dispatched a
fire engine, a red rhino and two fire bikes. Using three compressed
air foam backpacks and a water jet, they extinguished the truck on
fire.
In an advisory, SCDF says the main cause of vehicle fires are
from “ignition sources such as overheating and electrical faults
within the engine compartment”. Motorists are advised to service
their vehicles regularly and equip them with a fire extinguisher.
Motorists are also encouraged to conduct visual checks for any
signs of oil leakage before driving.
If any sign of smoke is seen coming out of the vehicle, drivers
are advised to pull over to the side of the road, turn of the
ignition and evacuate, added SCDF.
