Festive Season Fire Safety Alert SCDF to step-up on
enforcement checks
The Singapore Civil Defence Force says it will step up its
checks on commercial buildings for fire safety violations, given
the approaching festive season.
It reminded building owners and managers that escape passageways
should be free of obstruction and fire exit doors kept accessible
for use during emergencies.
Overcrowding especially in public entertainment outlets such as
discotheques and pubs should be avoided.
SCDF says this is to prevent a stampede if evacuation is
required.
Under the Fire Safety Act, violators may be fined up to 10 thousand
dollars or be sentenced to a jail term not exceeding six months, or
to both.
Anyone who notices fire hazards may report them to SCDF on
1800-280-0000.
