More than 2,300 jobs need to be filled at Changi
Airport, with over 40 employers participating in a two-day job fair
to meet the manpower needs of the Republic’s fast-growing aviation
industry, which is gearing up for the opening of Changi’s Terminal
4 in the second half of this year.
About eight in 10 jobs are for rank-and-file workers,
around a third of which offer salaries above S$2,000. The
Adapt And Grow job fair takes place on Wednesday
(Feb 8) and Thursday at Crowne Plaza Changi Airport.
Participating employers – including the SIA
Engineering Company and the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority
– are looking to recruit workers for roles from airline and
airport operations to engineering and food and beverage.
To woo groups such as mid-career entrants, mature
workers and persons with disabilities, some employers
are offering flexible work arrangements too.
Professional, managers, executives and technicians can
apply for schemes such as the Professional Conversion Programme for
retail and restaurant managers, ground operations officers and
aircraft maintenance technicians. Rank-and-file workers, on the
other hand, can tap the Reskilling For Jobs – Work Trial programme
to ease their transition into new jobs.
The Adapt And Grow career fair is jointly
organised by Workforce Singapore, the Civil Aviation Authority of
Singapore (CAAS), and the National Trades Union Congress' Aerospace
and Aviation Cluster and Employment and Employability
Institute.
To allow individuals to apply for positions and to
talk to firms virtually, a virtual fair will also run from
Wednesday to Feb 22. This is the second time a virtual fair has
been organised to complement the physical Adapt And Grow career
fair.
CAAS director-general Kevin Shum said the Republic's
aviation sector continues to see strong growth, with a multitude of
jobs for both new and mid-career entrants.
"Through this tripartite collaboration, we aim to
provide more opportunities for Singaporeans to benefit from the
growth of the sector, drive greater innovation, raise productivity
and upgrade skills for our workers," he said.
