Its a male dominant working environment but there are females
doing this job too. You will be working in PSA Terminals (Ports). The class course will be conducted
at PSA Institute at Pasir Panjang Road. Its
11 days class and in between ojt until your ojt assessment. Upon
passing you still have to complete the balance of the ojt period
before receiving your certified and render you as being qualified
to this job). This is your position…as I said before without you or
when your pc is down the operation will be stalled. Your position
is
WHARF OPERATION SUPERVISOR
You will be…
1. Working with the Quay Crane Operator at the wharf side, Ship
Traffic Assistant onboard the vessel, cone men, Prime Movers and
the Controller from Control Centre.
2. Co-ordinating with the Quay Crane Operator and Ship TA
regarding the cargo containers onboard the vessel during
discharging and loading. Make sure the containers number is correct
and the port destination is correct.
3. Supervise the cone men.
4. Monitoring the traffic of Prime Movers within your wharf
operation area and supervising them during the discharging and
unloading in order for the Quay Crane Operator to discharge or
unload the containers smoothly and safely.
5. Monitoring the safety protocols within your wharf operation
area.
You will be working in a small air-condition cabin with your pc,
located underneath the Quay Crane. During work you will be
communicating with all these people using a radio set. You are the
“Boss” but you have a boss above you…The Controller from control
centre.
In the beginning you will find this job difficult and stressful
but after awhile….its like a piece of cake.
You have container rates incentives…depending which company you
work for….5 cent per container and 10 cent per container etcs.
Average 4000 containers a month is not a problem to achieve when
you gain more experience….usually within 2 or 3 months. Many
seniors WOS can achieve more than 5000
containers a month. PSA WOS some of them no
container rates incentive.
