Agony of an accounts career!

Hi Everyone,

here is my circumstances.
i have a degree in accountancy but with zero accounts related experience i.e. be it full sets accounts, partial AP / AR, GST reporting etc.
But i do want to go for a accounts career and learn the full set.
However after job searching for some time, i find that it is really hard to find one that give fresh entry a chance even for the lowest position Accounts Assistant.
SO Guys/ Gals , is there a way out of this predicament.

I have quite alot of friend with dip and lower but still manage to get job as AA...

Maybe your methods are wrong...? How do you usually source for jobs?

try job as accounts assistant in a small set up to learn from accountant.

If the accountant leaves company , you may have the chance to handle full set of accounts

If you dig deep enough, there is always a misappropriation of funds in all companies, haha... If your account good enough, there is always legitimate usage of funds (in fact, you can even make it look like a high profit company despite losing money!).

i use jobstreet or jobsdb, searching for AA or Executive usually fresh or entry level position although some ridiculously need 2 yr experience even for low position

apply to those not using "hotmail" "gmail" "yahoomail" de...

Even if they say 2 years exp required, just send over ur resume...

dont limit yourself on jobs alone. look for somebody who can mentor you and who can serve as your reference when you apply for accounting jobs. you can also volunteer for organizations who are in need of your skills and expertise. build your resume as you conduct your job search. and read, read, read advice!
