Questions about data-entry jobs

Hi,

In the newspapers almost everyday, we see admin/clerical jobs like "Data entry" jobs etc.

What do these "data entry" jobs mean? Is it something like :

1) you report to work(in their office)
2) sit down at a computer they assign you
3) they give you stacks and stacks of paper and documents and ask you to enter all the data/values into the PC
4) you open up some software program(Excel, Access etc.) and start entering in all the data until it's time to go home

Is that what "data entry" means? I hope someone can share some knowledge, experience,opinions and insight in this.

hmm..i'm not sure abt other data entry jobs..but mine in ntuc income is abt insurance & i'm a data entry & also a proofer..and my dept is for Life Insurance..den we have to enter those application data in the computer..if data is incorrect as to wat the form is required,we hav to call up the agent to confirm it as some are major problems or sometimes we can correct it ourselves if it's a minor problem..we hav to learn how to enter data & learn wat the policy needs..after entering,we have to submit it to 'Proofers' to check again..if incorrect datas are entered,they will throw back to us to amend it but will delay the issue of the policy..so it's best that no errors shd be made..hope it helps?? 1) Is your job a temp, part-time or perm one?

2) How much roughly do you earn?

3) Do you get to wear every-day clothes? Or do you wear their uniforms?
